New KORG Volca & Electribe

if the sampler can't actually sample (that thing with the Volca and iOS app is fucking whack), Korg will never live it down.

we do know that the synthy one is getting PCM multisamples. It'd be sad if the sampler can't match it. Korg is touting it as a simple sampler though.... guess we'll find out in f'ing March =/

oooh you're just being pessimistic !

It's called sampleR after all, as opposed to the Volca which is "only" a sample player
Previous electribes can sample, wouldn't make sense if this one can't

Jesus that timeshift track is class. I assume these are demos on the unit itself?

Not really into any of the demos so far, I’m sure though that they will be capable machines, some of the sounds sound ok, but a lot of the demos sound pretty uninspiring and a bit ‘dubstep’ biased, I thought that stuff was dead a few years back - but TBH the fuck I know what is current in clubs now

someone on muffwiggler dug up the Volca’s manual:

Looks like the Sync In jack is used for getting samples from the iPhone. I imagine someone will unfuck that for Korg pretty quick >.>

I wonder if the app encodes samples to FSK tones like how the Monotribe update was done, could be interesting to see how hackable it is!

Does anyone have a release date for the electribe sampler?

i’ve read here and there that it might be coming out at the beginning of 2015
some dealers say around x-mas

had to ask, can’t wait no more !

sampler, they've been saying March.

the other one just got pushed back from November to December... :(

People on IDMf posting videos of demos from Japan where they’re in the wild.

Also, rather unfortunate, switching patterns cuts off delay and reverb. Why do companies still make gear that does this? =/

To be honest I WAS interested but after seeing these two video’s…sounds are all so thin and there are so much boring sounds I have heard before on the Kaos. The advantage is that the previous electribes will be sold more and more and these machines I find beter looking and more straight forward.

Any new insight to more interesting/likable sounds? Please say yes.

Ok, I’m liking this. http://youtu.be/AEj93wV7MM4

Just got a Volca sample yesterday, having a blast with it, very fun, simple but well thought out and flexible sample player, the app is pretty fast and fun and downloading does not take too long (I remember using SDS in the 90s though!)

Anyway here is a jam with the Monotribe I made http://youtu.be/bk_1LpRgO2s

Is that at your kitchen /Bar? Very flexible and entertaining liveaction!

Nice one, Daren!

How easy is sequencing on it?
Would you use it for melodies or what?

Good to hear the Volca Sample is a hit!
Santa Claus is bringing me one at Christmas

@johnl you can sequence melodic stuff by recording moving the pitch knob, but it is more suited to drum machine duties really, having said this if you are not trying to sequence an exact pre-determined melody then it is quite fun to come up with pitched sequences like that. I guess if you are patient and use the active step function you could dial in exact melodies, also holding function whilst turning the pitch knob increments in semitones.

@mixrasta yeah kitchen, just had my dinner then quickly set up and jammed

@spacetravelmadeeasy - I predict a fun Christmas!

@darenager interesting what you’re saying about being suited to drum machine duties, that’s exactly how I see myself using the VolcaSample mostly with the OP-1.

I think i’ll also use it a lot for mangling samples into surreal sequenced noises then sampling into either the OP-1 or AbletonLive for use in tracks.

@darenager really digging the Neu Disco vibes. Nice transitions as well.
