Hi! Im a bit new to This forum so i start with a simple hello…Hello!
So ive ordered a Op-1 that hopefully will arrive on friday.
My question is what MIDI interface would u suggest for the Op-1?
I want IT to work without a computer and sync nicely with my elektron boxes.
Mostly interested in clocking the stuff together.
I don’t think Elektron syncs over USB, so you may want a solution that does both MIDI DIN and USB MIDI. I like the iConnect4MIDI+. The Kenton and OPLAB would also work for this. You should consider exactly how many MIDI devices need to be connected, whether they need to all communicate with each other, and how many are USB MIDI only. If you only have the OP-1 as USB MIDI, then you could run the OP-1 into the Kenton, then get a MIDI splitter or daisy-chain all of the other MIDI DIN devices.
hello i come from original MIDi genaration still belive in hardwares over softsynth n daws. anyways i got op-1 5month ago it wasnt hard to pick up all the functions, i still think op-1 is good but not perfact( n what i have to say bout op-1 short coming is for some other time) anyways i would like to use my dinosaur mpc4k to control sequence op-1 as slave i assume iconnect4+ is what i need. i just want to make sure iconnectmidi4 will work.
i want to utilize full midi capability of 4k to control op-1 for
sync, sequencing records midi, note msg, record op-1 knob movement n playback, midi programe change you know usual midi stuff, how does the tape works with external sequncer? one thing that i do not pove about op-1 is the midi functions n seems that manual isnt going help much on midi…
one last question…is the sound quality of op-1 sampler output bit too crispy n light compare to other hardware samplers synth like my akai4k, microsampler, op-1 sampler saound like its built for sampling sound of synth n not organic sound sample. i was bit bummed out when i compared sound of same samples on op-1, mpc n mcrosamplr… is it bc op-1 being pure digital synth? i was conflicted bout op-1 for while but i decide to keep it bc it just so easy to use n great for making quick ruff draft anywhere n its tiny speaker makes this gear almost like live instrument using lfo ) i have custom made strap n arm harness so i can mount op-1 on my left arm n play part of band G+LFO make it perfect instrument i can play expressive n hard almost like headbanging that i love… my bad for non informative long post
But i also found out about the Kilpatrick Carbon Sequncer…wich has a USB port on it that i hope will work with MIDI . Then it would probably be better to hold out and wait for that solution. Mailed Kilpatrick and asked if the Op-1 could recive MIDI via USB . Lets hope so
they really need to up!the! sequencer game… i was frustrated at first bc its weak sequencers (or more like ARP triggering function) at leat let the user choose lenght of pattern… 16steps max… is just… sad… recordning note timming wasnt impressive at all… so my initial answer was just use tape to record n chopin to sampler but… delete that useless (exprimental) sequencers n just beef up the ones that people need. i am ssry ive wanting to say this for months but i cant even post new threads so i m just being noisey
I remember seeing that photo from the Elektron forums. Your setup has a lot of what I love—minimal, compact, portable.

It should do just want you want, as it acts as a USB MIDI Host, like many of the devices others have mentioned.

Thanks for the warm welcome here
Im happy with my setup at the moment (just the mixer/interface issue left) and i got a OP-1 and a
OTO Biscuit on the way here. Super excited
Yeah i really hope the carbon will do that but i had to mail him and ask just to be sure…if thats how it will work then i will jump on the carbon wagon directly
So i did a bit of more researching regarding the MIDI and came to the conclusion that it will be a Iconnectmidi4+ that will be the best solution for my setup. Got really inspired by LyingDalai and the Keynote he did and published here in the forum. So i did a similar keynote to wrap my head around the routing and also realized that i could implement my Ipad in my setup. Nice to be inspired and get ideas from people in this forum. Thanks for all input
yeah same here ive come to same conclusion after debating kenton cost 140$ from ebay vs iconnectmidi4+ 199$ amazon can control alot more devices and kenton came out yrs ago. kenton dealer store is nonmexistnce in US so i jist order midi4+ from amzon for 199$ should get here by monday, so excited for all the new things i be able to do with op-1 mpc4k via midi, it will save much time n annyoning headach
