It seems USB OTG devices have restricted current supply capabilities, so it is possible that a USB hub is required for connecting to the OP-1.

got an answer back from my sweetwater rep, he claims the update was from TE…I heard from my SW rep a week ago that early may was the word.
just seems so unlikely given it’s mid-late april already. would certainly be nice though. reached out to my sw rep to see what’s up

Ah, yes that would make sense. I’m quite excited about the possibility of the OP-Z adding some utility to the OP-1 in this regard.

Agreed. I’m guessing an announcement at Superbooth with future shipping dates might be it.
the only hope i have at this point is that for the last pocket operator series they made the announcement about them and then had them for sale straight away… and i think this happened with the last series as well, that the product is available immediately with the announcement. so if there’s any info at superbooth then maybe it will release right away. but not holding my breath.

i dunno maybe if u charging it. op1 doesn’t take much power from the usb otherwise.
truecuckoo@quirky.music it’s a usb host, so you can put in low power usb midi interfaces straight into it. But there are unannounced connectivity details to be announced before the launch.
aaargh it looks and sounds so fun, can’t wait to get one. I’m going to Europe in October, if they’re not available in Australia by then I’ll buy one in Sweden or something
How can it be a midi host with just a micro USB port? How would you plug a keyboard into it?
^ usb OTG?
isn’t it a C port and not a micro tho?

Can we change the title of this thread to just like “The OP-Z Thread” or something? Haha…
Maybe @Noiseflux could do it?

Where did you get this price from?

Ikea
Price is pretty wild… How many people really need something so small that they’ll pay that kind of $ for it? From reading on here it seems like perfect box for some people, which is cool, but I can’t see it selling great over time at that price… I’d actually like one for use with iPad and hardware but it seems like it has too many compromises for me to throw £600 at it… No built in screen. Only 4 knobs for use as a controller/external sequencer. No insert fx? No stems? Samples only on one track? Tiny keys. Seems kind of like a jack of all, master of none…
From rumours it looks like I could maybe buy an entire behringer eurorack for the same price and just sequence that from my iPad/phone, if I ‘really’ need to sketch stuff while I’m on the bus and use the same fiddly interface when I’m back in the studio to integrate that sketch. Crazy times…
Think TE might be couple years too late with getting this out the door for it to have the sustained impact/appeal that it might have had a couple years ago when they gripped the concept… Things like parameter locks and step components are appearing more and more in hardware (deluge is permanently on my radar) and ios these days. Not really feeling £600 of wow factor on opz so far… No decent videos yet is possibly partly to blame though. Maybe some more impressive footage will show up…
Deluge:
- No screen
- 2 knobs
