Thanks for the heads up on this.
From the Youtube description: “today’s episode features jonas, product owner of the OP–XY, who will present the new sample slicer update.”
God I hope they finally give us some better sample management on device with the new slicer, no more putting everything in the root of the sample folder ![]()
Live on YouTube as I type.
1hr demo on the new update !

They said OP-XY had no time stretching because it’s over CPU capabilities. It’s ridiculous. Deluge can have time stretching on every single sound. Even EP-133 has time stretching. OP-XY seems to keep lacking it however.
Not every piece of gear has to have every functionality other gear has.
but why not use deluge or ep-133 for time stretching then?
I agree with you. However I find it reasonable to compare a device to others in the same league and with the same purpose. OP-XY is adveritsed as a “dream machince” and “probably the most
complete, portable sequencer ever built” so I think we can compare it to other portable grooveboxes available on the market especially since these statements about OP-XY sound really ambitious so it is expected that the device really does the job the same level or even better than other similar devices do.
So let’s see. Does OP-XY support time stretching? No it doesn’t. But focusing on sequencer capabilities: does it support editing individual note parameters (nudge, velocity, etc.)? No it doesn’t. Does it provide per sample envelopes, lfos, filters, effects, etc.? No, it doesn’t. Let’s stop here for now. How about other devices? E.g. the Deluge supports all these features as well as MPC Live III, if we also take the latter as a portable groovebox. And there are just a very few sequencer features on OP-XY that would be difficult for Deluge to reproduce. And at this point the price tag also matters and that’s the only area where OP-XY leaves the competition behind - in a bad way.
So I think OP-XY doesn’t match the expectations established by the manufacturer. And this can be voiced in my opinion.
I think you should buy a deluge. ![]()
Akai mpc’s (post MPC1000’s) are kind of gross IMO. Clunky, slow, super ugly, just NO. Can’t speak to deluge, but I’ve never been compelled to look into it further. That being said, I also wouldn’t tell someone not to buy or try either. People like what they like, the market speaks for itself.
The opxy does not support editing individual note parameter? Just on the grid and then global groove?
Hey all! So what is the general consensus on this update? Are the new additions what people have been asking for? Seems like lots of bugs fixes every couple of months or so, which is good right? ![]()
huh? that makes the device essentially doa for serious production purposes. EDIT: There is more nuance to this in the video. Go watch if you want. Basically they were concerned about CPU and loading times for doing stretching but the idea is not binned, they’re going to do it if the community wants it.
I think the update is great, especially the sample chopping. No crashes yet.
