Can anyone briefly summarize the quality control issues I’m hearing about with the v2s. I have no real plans to get a v2 I guess, but just trying to stay in the loop on developments. Thanks!
I can only say that the QC issues are limited.
My unit , from the first batch, hasn’t froze or had any issues with cross fader or other things being reported aside from the software bugs that are known issues.
It is rock solid. I have thrown everything I can at it, even doing Flex-only start point automation on static tracks. And, on my 64GB Sandisk Extreme, it hasn’t skipped a beat.
People, would you mind taking this discussion elsewhere, please? To get the thread back on track, I just re-acquired a second-hand Octatrack MKI today. Looking forward to using it in a band setting! Can anybody report if the LEDs on MK2 are easier to read? Having a yellow-green color blindness, it's difficult for me to distinguish between the different trig colors. That would be one thing that tempted me to upgrade.
I don’t have a yellow / green colour blindness but had issues with the LEDs on the Mk1 being difficult to distinguish. If the Digitakt is anything to go by the backlighting is a big improvement.
On OT mk2 there are a few minor bugs I’ve seen : Live Rec mode isn’t visible, so far the button doesn’t blink.
And when on the very last slice of a chain if you hold Fn it goes back to the last start point.
Oh, and my REC1 button had been replaced by a second MIDI button, but I will receive a new cap soon (expected tomorrow) and already saw how easy it is to replace back.
So far, with a few dozen hours of playing with OT mk2, I had absolutely no freeze.
I still have to take the time to set my levels properly and do an A/B test compared to DT, on the same samples… But my new OT won’t go anywhere ! I have missed it so much the whole summer !!

"OS 1.30B introduces trig conditions for MKI and a few bug fixes for MKI /
MKII. For a full list of changes, see the documentation included with
the upgrade zip-file."
I guess it’ll be time to visit Elektronauts soon. Been a while. First try to get my MKI back into a functional state… then try the new OS.

VU meter would sometimes get stuck at max.
Scene locking XDIR to MIN had no effect.
Rec button LED would not flash in real time recording mode.
MIDI output buffer overflow would make the unit freeze.
Encoder/fader input overflow would cause irregular UI behavior.
Reconfiguring the flex memory would make it impossible to trigger flex samples, unless a manual
reload of the samples was invoked.
The Part Edit command would edit the last selected part, rather than the active part.
I finally dusted off my OT MkI, cleaned up the unused projects to hopefully restore stability, installed 1.30B, and had a bit of a play.
The % trig condition works just like the DrumPerfect iPad app - pretty straightforward and useful. The A:B condition is cool too. Well, most of them are cool. The manual has a bit of a fuckup though in calling the Scale Setup button “Pattern Page”. Anybody who gets a MkI and tries reading this manual is going to waste an hour or so trying to figure out WTF the “Pattern Page” button is.
The Fill functionality is not useful for me. You have to hold 2-3 buttons just to set off a Fill and there’s no way to trigger it by MIDI. Manual does not bother to explain what the Fill Mode actually looks like. I doubt it would kill them to just mention that all 4 LEDs next to the button will flash when the mode is activated - they probably just forgot.
Instead of using Fill, I 'll probably just program alternate patterns instead, with their own trig conditions as desired.
That all said, it’s a great update!
I find Fill and /Fill extremely useful to have control over the change of the sequence.
Yeah the emergent complexity of the trig conditions is mind-boggling! Trying to get my head around it.
I find Fill and /Fill extremely useful to have control over the change of the sequence. And you can either latch it, or set it true for the whole sequence, or set it true only while you press it. Two buttons indeed, not that easy compared to the Analog series, but still pretty cool.Fill does the same as One Shot trig. But I fill like it's easier then to use One Shot trigs for launching sampling and Fills for messing with audio or MIDI sequence.Cool trick : with microtiming, you set one trig very close to its neighbor.First one on Fill (or any trig condition for that matter) and the following on /Pre.You can then totally mess with either trigs, set different chords or FX or retrigs number or whatever... Very handy !It's more powerful than just program an alternate pattern because with Up + Page, Fill condition makes it possible to have a sort of instant Pattern jumping, whereas to run the alternate pattern you have to wait for the current one to end.
Here are the reasons I will not use Fill at this time:
Good points
There are people asking for a one button shortcut as well. I can’t understand why Elektron haven’t added a fill button to the UX, that would have been so cool… and coherent with what they did on analog mk2 !
