Same.
Regarding double trigs I tried it a bit more and my conclusion is that it really matters how I press the musical keyboard on the device. So the buttons must be pressed definitely and fingers must be lifted quickly if no sustain is expected. It’s not ok to slide the fingers (“pet” the keys) when playing ![]()
i connect op-z to op-1f with usb and each time the op-1d hangs up and becomes unresponsive (tape is rolling and playing), and needs a power off.
is this also 1.5.7 related or something else?? new to op-1f so its first time for me trying this…
thanks!
You can’t sync the op-z with the op1 via usb
It will crash the op1 everytime.
you can def sync them fine but just make sure you are not telling both units that they are both master and slave midi, because that will cause some sort of weird recursive logic somewhere and hangs/crashes both devices pretty quickly. but if one is set to slave while other is master, you can sync them no problem.
@yellow_eyez is right that the tape reel will not follow timestamp sync, whereas the ko2 actually will. e.g. opz patterns always just start and stop the clock but do not tell op1f where on the tape reel timestamp you are. whereas the ko2, say beat 4 on measure 31 of your ko2 pattern will always map exactly to 2:11 on your op1f tape track. pretty neat.
right! thanks, i’ll see into that. it must be the problem, that both try to be a master at the same time…
weird about the tape, in this video it looks like the tape resets each time the op-z sends start: https://support.teenage.engineering/hc/en-us/articles/6474290179484-OP-1-field-and-midi-video
let us know how it goes. yes that video is awesome. son wu is the best. so the tape will restart, but it doesn’t maintain a consistent timestamp enforcement between the two devices. whereas on the ko2, its truly amazing, that you can move around in your ko2 and it will actually move the tape reel on the op1f around. so that your bars on the ko2 always map to the same place in the op1f.
not sure how it goes on the field
but on the OG, u can use hte loop markers to set where you want the tape to start and stuff like that when syncing
i actually think thats more flexible (for me anyway)
than having the song position always locked between the two
but i like to work on multiple songs on one tape so maybe thats why…?
seems hopeless ![]()
when setting clock in and notes&other off on OP1f then it doesnt hang most oftern when synced to OPz - but even then it falls out of sync little by little. when changing tempo on OPz it´s completely nuts
syncing to KO II it wont hang. keeps the sync pretty long but even then starts to slide out of sync little by little…
wonder how master wu manages to do that? that video has only pretty short moments though.
EDIT: althoug now i realized there is something more in the COM section, you can get a list of devices where you can edit what the opz or ko II sends (or what op-1 will receive from them) - i think? clock, notes, other, timestamp, velocity
yes you also need to make sure the midi settings on the devices list is correct too. on both devices. my bread and butter is syncing opz and op1f so this definitely works. the only thing it doesn’t do like i mentioned is keeping in lockstep with your tape reel timeline, but for creating loops on the tapereel (agnostic of where long the tapereel timeline you are) and using opz as input source, they can be kept in perfect midi sync.
That’s why I prefer ko2 + op1f now ![]()
What settings work? I’m getting hangs every time. Do you also have audio going through usb? I complained to TE about this in Jan. They said they knew and a fix was being worked on. Doesn’t seem their highest priority though.
The settings that work are : DONT use USB lol
You can only send over BTE @tomrup
lol no that is not true don’t listen to yellow eyes. he’s a pessimist ![]()
you can definitely use USB. ill go check my settings this weekend when im back home. the gist of it is that one device needs to be the slave and the other needs to be master. if you have midi echo or any type of mirroring happening on the devices, it will cause feedback and crash
So happy to find I’m not alone, I’ve been going nuts trying every possible combo of settings between the op-1f & op-z (latest firmwares), yet the op1f crashes every single time.
For now I’m sticking to the ko2 as a master clock going to both (usb to the op1f and midi trs to the op-z) and that seems to work well.
Haven’t experienced any of that myself. Is your field running out of storage space?
It’s not storage issue - it is an internal OS issue. You’re lucky it isn’t crashing for you though so that’s a good thing
mine crashes every time i use it, i’ve been meaning to factory reset—i hope that fixes it
sidenote has anyone actually gotten an audio interface to work? i’ve tried multiple class compliant ones
Got this reply from TE at the end of march 2025
- our dev team is aware of the problem, and they are working on a solution, which will hopefully be released soon.*
