OP-1 Field with live alt-rock

First post - wanted to share how I’ve been using the OP-1 Field in an alt-rock band. I know there are a few topics out there (and artists), but I’d love to see and hear more examples of live shows with rock… I originally thought I’d use the OP-1 more for sampling & writing but it evolved into more of a live tool for me. I load short stems and pre-arranged samples from modular/pedals/Digitone and use them as transitions, background pads in a few songs, and play samples by hand as the main element of one of our songs. Here is a very short medley a friend made from my band’s first proper show last weekend. https://youtu.be/RNICu0EuQmI

I LOVE this thing to death - I can put what I want on there via easy usb hookup, throw it (in a hard case) in my guitar bag, and easily have it with me at every rehearsal and show. A new world, especially for this guitar-centered guy… I charge it maybe once a week. Especially as I now do all the singing and guitar for our 3-person alt-rock band it’s incredibly convenient and sounds amazing. I actually run it through a separate pedal chain on my guitar board but haven’t really used pedals with it live yet.

Next steps - trying writing on the OP-1 again, and working some live keyboard parts into songs… I’ve been considering virtual lessons, maybe for the OP-1 and/or Elektron boxes. I’ve been following this forum for a while and find it super inspiring!

That’s awesome. I always felt like the OP-1f could really shine in the right Post Rock setting as well..

That’s awesome dude!

Me and @djcuvcuv also use the op-1f in a guitar centric context - cuvcuv is a good buddy and he’s a fabulous fabulous jazz fusion guitarist, and I am a metal guitarist

I use the op1f in an unconventional manner too, and I just discovered what I’m attempting to do is called “synthwave” metal but I’m having fun exploring the territory

I am a guitarist and classical pianist originally , and I pivoted/transitioned to hardware and electronic elements when I found the iOS/ipad as a music production tool

I naturally ran into the world of hardware synths; and TE quickly and easily became my #1 brand due to its form factor, its awesome ease of use, its endless functionality in my workflow, and just having something always with me that can do a song A-Z no matter where I am or what I am equipped with - it really is an all in one tool that has so much to it that it’s incredible it isn’t more commonly used outside of the conventional base

Anyway I haven’t done a full metal song on my op1F but I’ve done a few synthwave type tracks where my guitar really played a major role

Thanks for sharing and rock on :sign_of_the_horns:

Wait, what??? @djcuvcuv and I are both in Providence?? Are you also in RI??? Amazing. I’d love to check out your synthwave tracks, are they posted somewhere to listen??

I’m in NYC, and last time I checked cuvvy is in EU but hey I wouldn’t mind living “outside providence” (great movie)

I have a few songs on SoundCloud but they aren’t finished finished pieces in the way some other guys really touch up their tracks with mixing and mastering

I think CLICKETY CLACK and hardened are a good example of my initial out the gate fusion and I’m currently refining my sound but I have the direction I needed finally as of this month actually

Anyway enough about me, Chris will chime in soon as he’s back around lol

I dig your stuff dude, what is “post rock” in your own words? First time I heard the term

thanks for the shout out @yellow_eyez ! i was in the EU for a few months on and off over the last few years but my home base is indeed providence ri! i love it here. i was living in boston for about 10yrs and my gf is from providence so i moved here in 2023. myrtle is a great spot. your gig looked awesome, too bad i missed it. @stereoparade do you post your calendar online somewhere so i can make sure not to miss the next one?

all my music lately is using the op1f + opz + guitar, where the op1f is my DAW. im wrapping up the final track for my first album which i hope to release on band camp and all major platforms before the end of the summer. ive been posting all my tracks to soundcloud one at a time over the last year or so:

my music takes some patience as the songs are all kind of lengthy, but if you let it wash over you it usually grows on you (or so im told) and so i hope ha ha

Hey! I listened to your stuff - both @djcuvcuv & @yellow_eyez!! Super cool, I love how you both are mashing up instruments and styles in unexpected ways. Awesome. I look forward to the proper album releases! I assume they will be announced here on the forum, let us know if we should be signing up to follow you elsewhere.

What is post rock? I don’t know. I don’t think I’ve called us that, but maybe somewhere. I’d guess rock taken further, like with different instrumentation, dynamics, or structure? I guess we are that, my roots are in 90s alt but I like twisting things around a bit more… I shouldn’t be tempted by the opz as I’m finally figuring out Digitakt and Digitone and trying to shift time from learning curves to creating, but I bet the op1f + opz + guitar combo has advantages…

Yeah - would be awesome if you can sign up on our mailing list via our website for future updates including shows! That would be great. Looking towards studio time and another show this fall, nothing booked at moment. Knowing Providence I’ll probably run into @djcuvcuv at the grocery store this weekend  www.stereoparademusic.com
