OP-1 Update 2016

You have provided more info about why TE delayed their firmware than they have.

I don’t really consider nearly groundless speculation “info”. Also not sure why feature questions would be considering off topic in a thread about the features of the update.

The update will be done when it is done. Haggling over why it’s not done yet doesn’t really have a point.

Constructive conversation about what we’d like to be in the update (some of which we know already from the leaked beta) seems a lot more pleasent a way to pass the time than bickering.

Pipe dreams about features in a thread TE started ignoring in 2015 are about as useful as speculating on development issues. Both are just as fun to talk about as my troll comments are fun to make.

...with endless you can!! @dialecticsines
if you put a nice melody into endless seq. you are able to switch to midi mode by pressing shift + com and then T2 for ctrl.

sequencer is still running in this mode. but i think it's just endless that works.

unfortunately you can't change the CC number inside OP1 but they are sending straight 1-4 as CC. easy map it.

I think I’m in the minority, but I can’t get my head around endless. Without a visual grid (or the natural motion of playing to a live rhythm), I never can type in something w/ appropriate rests, using shift / arrows. Just can’t visualize it.

A certain dude showed off his method for plotting out Endless sequences, involving a chart system on paper. It’s simpler than it sounds. I searched around for it but can’t find the original post. But yeah, the idea is to plot it out on paper first.

If you are familiar with how ableton records and displays midi notes its pretty similar. I can’t read sheet music, but I figured out how to transcribe drum sheet music into the op-1 sequencers, roughly. I would assume one could do something simmilar with sheet music and the endless sequencer. But now I am getting us off topic :-J

But is there any real advantage over, say, Finger?

Finger is less polyphonic if I remember correctly. You can’t really play chords with it like you can in Endless. Obviously Endless gives you more steps, too. Both are useful but in different ways, Finger is more for short riffs or drums that you want to stack up together using the Join feature.

Oh god yes, off topic, um, well, I wish we could SAVE ENDLESS SEQUENCES see how I tied it together there

Finger can go 32, w/ duophony (?). But I find endless useful for house-style chords.

Auxy (if you have an ipad) is the death of faffing with the endless seq for drums…its so good and TRIPLET heaven!

Auxy is brilliant. So simple to set up, and the performance interface is really nice.

imo the main advantage is note length. Can’t get longer or shorter notes in finger (without some clever workarounds). 16th notes are all you get.

Cool idea, and It’d certainly work, but this sounds too much like engineering, the type of engineering that a teenager doesn’t have enough patience for. Would’ve been great if they provided a scrollable view of the notes with a divider between each bar. Having to whip out a pen and paper just to get a long sequence in seems kind of messed up regarding the “self contained” aspect of the OP-1. Will try it anyway tho, thanks!

But please give us an 8 bar pattern with pages for each bar. Plz plz! That’s all I need.

@jellygeist @wavi would that be my paper grids by any chance? It is seriously easy. I now nail 64 steps in one go just looking at my cheat sheets. Here are examples I put on Instagram:

That’d be the ones, right there.

Just saw on Instagram cuckoo was at TE talking to them about the coming update. Hopefully @cuckoo you might be able to tell us what's up (or maybe a video if we could be so lucky) or that we will hear something from te. Either way, I'm excited!!
I recorded an informal video about the forthcoming update. Also introducing, in the video, Teenage Engineering's only TEENAGER EMPLOYEE!! It's up for review, so once everyone involved have had a say, I'll pull the switch and make it live for everyone. Not sure if they will review it during the weekend, but I'm hoping next week.

Hey @cuckoo any word on that video? Pretty excited for it. Cheers

I think he wrote somewhere here on the forum that TE asked him not to publish it.

Ahh for real? Dang that sucks.

Hey all. I recorded two videos. One on the OP-Z (which TE decided not to publish) and one video where two TE employees present the new OP-1 update, which I guess is scheduled to release some point closer to release. Which should be soon, if all goes well.

Thanks for clarifying

Sweet news @Cuckoo! Thank you!

Cool. Glad to hear that update is coming, as all those threads and videos about beta features makes me feel, like those are EXACT things I need… NAO!
