Op-1 Update Freeze

Hello,

I have an Op-1 which does not seem to be able to be updated via TE BOOT.

Steps followed:
1) Booted into TE BOOT via COM button + Powering on.
2) Chose “1. Update Firmware”.
3) Followed process to connect device to PC via USB. Firmware partition is recognized, allowing op1 fw file to be copied across (I have tried multiple fw files with no success).
4) Ejected device in windows (USB cable remains connected).
5) Pressed COM Button to commence update.
6) Messages shown on screen are:
Found Firmware Package:
Calculating CRC-32…
CRC-32 OK, start unpacking…

From this point on there is no further progress shown and it appears to be frozen on the last message. The “Format drive” function was also tried in TE BOOT and the OS has been wiped (but now cannot be replaced), however this did not have any effect and the above still occurs. I can also reboot the Op1 into TE BOOT and repeat the same process.

Does anyone have any idea of what is the cause of this issue?

Thanks

The freeze on the “start unpacking” process leads me to believe that there could be an issue with the device writing to the yaffs2 OS data partition (where the main OS files are stored)?

Is it possible to access the OS/system partition so that I can copy the firmware and OS files directly across to it, skipping the fw update process? I’m told the area is encrypted so may not be possible.

Ich afraid you’ll have to send it to TE for repair. This “yaffs2” error has been reported two or three times in this forum, no other solution found.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I couldn’t find any file system issues reported on this forum which are similar to the symptoms I’ve experienced here. This seems like an unique issue. Other users reported that they couldn’t access te-boot…etc…but nothing like the above issue?

Also, I’d like to know what is the cause of this issue? Is the NAND chip faulty and so the update cannot be performed? My concern is that a reflash will not correct the problem permanently and this may occur again after a reflash.

I’m afraid that the flash memory of your OP-1 is damaged. I have an SD card which shows similar symptoms: you can read all data that is saved there, but writing new data or erasing existing files shows no effect.

The format function seems to have worked, as it successfully erased all files. And I am able to copy firmware files to the firmware partition when I connect to a PC via USB during the update process. After checking the CRC the file unpack process just freezes. Possibly a sign of a hardware fault.
