Videos illustrating some odd behavior are here:
Video 1 - The OP-1 is on, even though the power switch is off:

Video 2 - Turning the switch to “on” doesn’t turn on the OP-1, then it turns on when I touch the speaker:

At first, I thought my battery was shot, because it wouldn’t seem to hold a charge. Now I wonder if it just runs down because the OP-1 wakes itself up in the middle of the night.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? My unit is long out of warranty, so I’m not opposed to sending it to Sweden for repair, but I’d much prefer to do it myself if possible.
Thanks!
Hi! It power on only if you touch speaker? Try touch other parts.
I have opened unit right now and I can check why this can happen.
Hi dmkbox,
thanks for the replies. Yes, it does work if I touch other parts…I had success with some of the buttons in the left/upper left part of the instrument. The condition is intermittent (right now it’s behaving normally) so I can’t always reliably test.
I heard back from TE…they suspect that a connector board replacement will solve the problem, and will make a shipment “hopefully this week” of replacement parts to ifixit.com.
Hm… As I seen inside unit, I can’t imagine condition which connector board will made such fault.
It makes some sense…the power switch is on the connector board. But it doesn’t completely explain how the unit turns on when touching the speaker. Perhaps the faulty switch is shorting to the enclosure? Or maybe the connector board attaches to the DSP board via a ribbon cable that runs over to the left side of the instrument?
my OP1 does not display the TE logo immediately upon startup, so by touching where the speaker is, you might actually be turning on the display (!). if it stays dark again upon boot, wait some 20 seconds or so and press something on the keyboard instead. Does it make any sound?

Are you drop your unit?

I think you’re right.
In fact, I think the whole “unit powers on when I touch the speaker” thing was a mistake. As eesn pointed out, the TE logo does not appear right away upon power up. I think my timing was consistent enough during my “testing” that I tricked myself into thinking I was turning the unit on when I touched the speaker.
I do still have a problem with the power switch, tho: sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it turns the unit on by itself. As soon as the parts come in I’ll do a replacement according to the instructions on ifixit.com.
Thanks for all your help!

no, mine is fine, that’s info for @clarke77

telltale little “click” when you switched it to on in your video. rewatch it if you like

Yes, sorry.
Update: the problem was 100% with the connector board (which includes the on/off switch). I replaced the board with the one they sell at ifixit.com:
https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Parts/OP-1-Connector-Board/IF237-000
…and everything is back to normal. Battery life is excellent, as it was before the problem started.
