OP-XY -> JBL Flip 7

I’m having trouble getting a portable speaker (for vacation) connected. Any advice appreciated.

I don’t think a Bluetooth connection will work, so didn’t even try.

I held the play button on the flip 7 before plugging the usb cable, and I get sound but it’s full volume with no way to turn it down. Neither the knob on the op-xy nor the volume buttons on the flip 7 do anything.

Maybe this isn’t going to work?

Thanks for any tips.

Rick

No aux input, just usb…

This is not uncommon for USB audio, usually it’s a digital signal at full level from the device. If the JBL volume control does not lower the volume, you’re out of luck. Honestly you were probably going to be out of luck even if you did sort the volume issue. JBL Bluetooth speakers often apply a lot of digital processing to the signal and have terrible latency as a result. I played a small gathering once with my OP-Z into a JBL Bluetooth boombox and the audio was delayed almost a full second.

However, you can go into the master section of OP-XY and turn the output down there. It should work fine.

@Tarekith the jbl flip 7 was an impulse buy the day before we left for Mexico. It was mostly for my wife so she could listen to music while she’s cooking on vacation. I had to grab something that was on the shelf, and I couldn’t find any small portable speaker that had audio input. So I grabbed this and thought I would try to make it work for my op-xy too.

And, it’s giving me an opportunity to learn more about the audio paths.

I have my laptop with me and audio over USB into my DAW works fine. I’ll play around with this a little bit more, but can always play the OP-XY into my laptop and send the audio out Bluetooth to the JBL flip 7 if I want to share what I’m working on.

@modulpaule when you say master section, do you mean the mixer? I tried going into the mixer section and turning the volume down on a per track basis and that does reduce the volume going to the USB speaker. I guess I could do that, but that would mess up the mix for the audio headphone jack output.

I also tried going to the effects tracks and selecting track five and adjusting the mix level, but that didn’t reduce the volume on the USB connected speaker.

Is there some other place where you can control the volume of all tracks at the same time?

sorry completely misread your post! hope you found some fixes for your problem!

Press 4 under the display when in mixer screen

Thanks @modulpaule !

In the mixer screen, When I press four I have options to adjust percussion, melodic, and master. It seems like if I turn melodic and master both down to zero, it reduces the volume on this silly little JBL speaker to something reasonable.

Thanks again for this tip!

that’s wild that they make speakers without aux inputs

Drove me crazy too. Best Buy in AZ. The salesman told me all the new (cheap) portable speakers are Bluetooth only. I think the usb port is mainly for charging. Really sad.
