Op-xy recieving cc messages just on one channel with the new Launchpad XL 3

Hey!

I’m using the Novation template for the op-xy, which supposedly works out of the box and is already mapped:

I can switch tracks with the Launchpad, but the op-xy only responds to incoming CC data on a single track. This happens even though, in the save settings (under the pen menu), I’ve assigned each track to its own MIDI channel—so the mapping goes from MIDI In 1 to 8 into the op-xy. That seems like the correct, and almost the only, way to configure it.

However, the Novation Launchpad still only controls the first MIDI track—probably because the op-xy it’s locked to just read the input from MIDI channel 1.

Honestly, I find it strange that I can’t figure out what’s missing in my configuration.

Hi there! One thing to check is the XY’s active channel. By default, channel 1 controls whatever the currently active track is. I don’t have a Launchpad so I’m kind of guessing here, but it might fix things if you set the OP-XY’s active track to something outside of the 1-8 range.

Here’s how you do that:

  • Press COM
  • Press M1 to open the system menu
  • Scroll to MIDI
  • Scroll to “active track ch” and change it to ch 16 or another channel you aren’t using.

I’m just taking a guess here but hopefully that fixes your issue.

Hey. I got an XL MK3 this week. I also noticed the active track/global channel doesn’t work with the XY. I changed the settings a few times and still, only track 1 was being controlled by the XL MK3. It was a bit frustrating. In the end I just made my own config and set each XY track’s MIDI channel to ch1-ch8 and then when creating my control scheme, it was explicit about which track was controlled by which encoder. It’s a little disappointing that something that is available out of the box from the manufacturer doesn’t want as expected but then it could be more to do with the XY’s MIDI implementation rather than Novation. I seem to remember my OP-1 Field also had issues with MIDI set up so it could be a TE problem :man_shrugging:
