OP-XY sequencing issue - steps register visually but do not play back

Hi all,

I’m having a serious issue with my OP-XY and wanted to check whether anyone here has seen the same behaviour.

The main problem is that I can enter steps into the sequencer and they appear correctly in track view, but they do not actually play back. The unit seems to register some input, but it will not trigger or replay the sequence properly.

I’m also seeing the following:

  • the step buttons do not light up

  • real-time recording is inconsistent

  • sometimes input appears to be captured, but there is still no playback

  • the rest of the device seems to function normally, including audio output

I’ve already tried multiple reboots, factory reset, firmware reinstalls, reinstalling the original firmware, and testing alternative firmware versions. None of it has resolved the problem.

Teenage Engineering support asked me to run the function test, and in that test button 1 does not respond at all — no green light or any other feedback.

At this point I’m starting to suspect a hardware fault rather than a firmware issue.

Has anyone here had something similar, or does this sound like a unit that needs repair/replacement?

Hmm sounds strange, I would repair/replace it. I had problems with one of my buttons and got a new one. It takes quite some time though if you send it to TE for repair. just so you know.

I had sort of a similar experience, but I keep trying to capture on film and not quite getting it.

.I have enough of a work around where I can still play the thing, but once I get video evidence of starting fresh and having this behavior happened, I will send it to support and try to get the issue sorted out.

I’m curious what the function test is, I might like to do that myself.

For what it’s worth, mine is only sort of similar; mostly it manifests as not showing notes that are playing rather than showing notes that aren’t playing, and also when I’m starting a sequence fresh, maybe I’m just throwing a kick drum in, it will play up to eight other keys every time the kick drum hits as soon as I’m done sequencing it, which I don’t have to go and delete all of their data reports, try again and sometimes that works.

I was having same issue pretty much. The buttons wouldn’t show during the hardware test. Re-installing the firmware fixed it for me.

You can’t reinstall the firmware using the update utility, you actually have to go to the website, download it to your computer, and do a manual reinstall. Good luck

Try reinstalling the firmware. The 1.14 update is not stable at all. 1.10 was very stable, I’ve been considering downgrading back to that. But reinstalling firmware helped me a lot when I was having strange issues. The problem is they eventually come back, which is why Im’ thinking of going back to 1.10.

Not sure what firmware I started on, but this has been an issue since I got this in … I forget, but it was June or July. Has followed me through all of the updates
