Not a bad thing if it’s not in the field range in my opinion, I think it fits better with the PO range. It should have been called the PO-Z, as it has so much in common with the Pocket Operators (step sequencer, punch in effects) and interfaces nicely with the POs (through the Line or OPLab modules) and Pocket Operator Modular stuff (through the OPLab module).
For me, here are my big hopes for the OP-Z 2 or whatever it’s called:
- Better sampler integration into the device (dedicated buttons for this, more storage, automatic chopping, resampling), some of this stuff could be done through the tape track!
- A drum synth engine, it could even be the PO tonic one, it’s brilliant
- Better sample based synth engine with granular or wavetable synthesis
- Line in on the device
- Proper MIDI control of the punch in effects (both the shift menu versions and the effects track)
- Expand the app integration, I’d love to see it managing backups, firmware updates, and possibly recording and sharing music
- And of course, nice sturdy construction
