yep. i think the button combos make a lot of sense and i haven’t scratched my head once. maybe the fact that i’ve had the elektron experience with its sequencer capabilities, the OPZ is so fast and powerful that it leads to reduce the need for more gear with overlapping features like sequencing…because its well thought out.
the menu diving is a pure killer on music making without any shortcuts and the mc101 has shortcuts that won’t lead to music making, instead you’ll dive deeper in the 1990s display architecture
if they had gone with the 707 display i would say go for it.
Regarding the MC-101 there is not much menudiving involved.
Most Functions are just one klick away…
Its really well organized…
But i guess it depends on what you need…
I think they mean scrolling though presets on that tiny screen… Allot of people find that one type of a living hell… Doing anything on those screens period… I used to have a jdxi… same screen and basic workflow… No thanks!!
When I stopped trying to make them sound like a specific sound and just went exploring with them. Then they opened up new avenues and surprised me. I think if your tweaking and trying to recreate a sound, then you will be disappointed. But if you tweak and listen for new sound, then you will enjoy the engines a lot more.
Plus sampling is so bare bones and fun that itnshould be illegal. I love just screaming into the mic and sample that, I’ve come up with some of weirdest loveliest lead sounds from that.
I think it’s a device that will offer you ideas, something I’ve never felt in another device.
For instance When I run out of ideas for chord progressions I usually enter a chord in the chord track and then I use the ramp up or ramp down step component plus I add the component spark so that ramp is only active on playthrough 2,3,4. Now I have a super jazzy 4 chords progression.
And the OP-Z is riddled with things like this and there isn’t a machine out there that does this kind of thing. This is the biggest part of way i will never sell the OP-Z
Ah i get it it‘s more a religous thing period
That‘s one thing i really hate about TE and Elektron… Everything they do is cool and if you don‘t like their machines you are just dumb or don‘t know how to make music… while companies like Novation didn‘t get any credits for constantly working and improving the circuit since 2015.
Sorry for ranting here… but i thought this is a discussion about a new toy and it‘s capabilities even if the thread title is maybe a bit offending
By the way i decided to keep the op-z just for jamming in the train or having fun… Maybe it‘s cool to put recorded loops to the mc for finishing a Track… Damn for that it would be nice if the mc had a line in … nothing is perfect😀
all good. if you like their products it often clicks while working with the units and you’ll discover a new approach, workflow wise.
it’s not that I have so much money that I would accept a faulty or bad designed unit (that’s the reason I sold some elektrons beforehand) in a period where I was waiting for updates far too long I have to say.
iam a long time OP-1 User and TE has done a really good job with the OP-Z and their update policy is really refreshing.
I guess you’ll like it when you start to sequence the mc101. quick and dirty
I love my Novation Circuit and I really like how easy it is to show others how to use it. No one I’ve handed the OP-Z for the first time has been able to get it or make anything without me having to give a long introduction. That said, while the Circuit is portable, it isn’t pocketable and that is why I bought an OP-Z.
I also hate “*** killer” phrase. It is so overused and never the case. Oneplus started it (at least that was the first time I saw it) with the “flagship killer” but Samsung, Apple, Sony, LG, etc. are still making good money with flagship phones.
me too. workflow on the OPZ is so fluid an fast. for me it‘s totally relaxed to create tracks on it, while on some elektron machines I‘m often not in the mood to stare at the small displays.
For me the OPZ is more open somehow. The combos all make sense.
Can‘t say much about the mc101 but I can‘t see where it „kills“ the OPZ. You can‘t slice samples, you can‘t really edit the synth sounds as far as I can tell, and there is far less modulation possible.
Lol I put “killer” in the topic to get a rouse out of people here. Anyways the mc101 is cool in some ways but I won’t get it. OP-Z is king haha. Been sending program changes from the Z to Reaktor snapshots as I progress from pattern to pattern, it’s pretty cool and it satisfies the OP-Z workflow and the extra synth sounds I wanted. Probably will get another OP-Z just to sync the program changes between them.
