Is this really not possible? So for example I cant play a complicated bass riff but then decide that actually I want a synth track to play that same pattern, so I could just copy the trigs over from track to track, in the same pattern. Seems real simple, why might they not have added this feature or am I missing something?

that question came up as soon as the OP-Z was released!!
unfortunately it’s not possible to copy from track to track, so choose your path (tracks) wisely 
Its a weird one, hmm - Why do we think they wouldn’t want to include this?

best way to find out would be to write down your thoughts about this implementation and send it over to TEs support and they may think about it
