OP-Z production peek #1

I'm oddly excited about the visuals engine and how easy it will be to match quick videos to beats.

Absolutely, same here

what are you building erd? looks awesome!

Yeah, probably the top feature i’m looking in OP-Z. Sequencer and Synth’s are more of a bonus to me. Still expect them to be “over the top” good.

Does anyone have link for some of the video stuff everyone’s hyped on? I only saw some from very early demo. Looked pretty lame IMHO tho? Kind of forgettable/throwaway/generic visuals? Guess better than nothing tho if people don’t have time to get something else together. Or for people with sets that constantly change week in/week out and just need something to sync regardless of audio content.

@masterofstuff124 im building a synth  i think i have talked about it about a page earlier in this thread

@Callofthevoid i think they will eventually have some sort of store for the visuals. Maybe? .it would be amazing if we can actually design our own visiuals for it

Yeah that sounds pretty cool if its super customisable like that

From a technical pov, i believe they have some form of unity object that receives certain events from the synth wirelessly. If it’s indeed the case and they open these tools to us, i guess only the sky is the limit.

There is a guy who TE has worked with on the prototype, and he is doing amazing things with other artists using unity as the visual engine. He was receiving the MIDI events from the equipment if i remember correctly.

Edit: I found the guy, his name is Keijiro Takashi and he has very cool stuff on his twitter and vimeo. You should check it out.

PS. I am just an unexperienced engineering student so i may be absolutely wrong and they may have a much better and complex solution.
Seems like a step backward after op-1 tho.
EDIT - just saw @virtualflannel said basically the same thing. Glad to see it isn't just me thinking this :-)

But it is step forward from the POs. I see it as filling the massive gap between PO and OP-1. The screens on the PO are not particularly useful (at least not to me). Maybe TE is just eliminating one more case of “my screen didn’t look right when I turned it on, should I return it or throw it in the garbage?” haha

@cuckoo aside from the OP-Z, I'm very interested in what the next round of POs will be... any sneak peeks??
Ha ha..

So, the PO-30 Clown, laughter emulation synth. Got it! ; )

He won’t share anything. He is a Teenage Engineering shill. They probobly made him sign a crazy NDA and pay him with weekly op-1 firmware updates with features we can only dream about dreaming about.

OP-1 updates? I’m on OP-3 now!

But does your op-3 get regular firmware updates? if it does I am jealous!!!

Ya the PO screens are not really that necessary.

They just wanted to have them look like the old DonkeyKong games…

PS. @sammyjams
The Clown Laughter emulation is in alpha. Sounds great ;-D

Come on, we know you already leaked a video of the early Clown Laughter sampler:

The staging is very smart, by the way. Love the theatrical aspect of it.

That version is way pre alpha!

Like, I just tell the OP-3 when I want an update, and what I want. And the OP-3, which is based on advanced AI, is also stalking you on social media, to find out what kind of person you are, and takes that into account when the OP-3 is updating the firmware for you. So you better behave, or OP-3 will send you foul firmware updates!

At around 5.35 in the first production peek, David is commenting on content stores, ios, android, Unity asset store, and the use of the game engine Unity.

"You’ve been mentioning Unity quite a few times. Yeah. It’s gonna be the visual platform? Yeah, for all visuals.…"
So anyone interested in making your own OP-Z visuals should get accustomed to how Unity works.

I saw a really cool Unity visual artist the other day btw, doing a quite sophisticated Unity visual show, together with an Electronic musician. They were in total sync! It had me wanting to aquire some serious Unity skills ahead of the OP-Z release!

Thank you for the laugh  @cuckoo

I guess am looking forward to poop emoticons and dick-pics all over my custom op-3 firmware then.

Ha ha… yeah, it’ll be great!

Sooo the ending was a bit ambiguous. Does that mean there actually is an OP-2 in the works? I guess if there were, it would still be a few years off, though…

We were just fooling around ;-) My guess is that they started out the new OP-Z project with a totally open mind. Once the feature set was getting more and more set, I'm sure the OP-2 name must have been on the table several times. But since it's something very different, I think they came up with a different name. 2 and Z looks very much alike :)
