Op-Z (USB)> Maschine > External Midi keyboard (in & out to Maschine)

What’s up y’all. I’m wondering if I can have the following set up with out buying the Oplab (or if the Oplab even allows this) for anyone who has used Op-Z with Maschine

Op-Z (USB)> Maschine > External Midi keyboard (in & out to Maschine)

I want the Op-Z to be the Master Sequencer and I want to be able to sequence midi notes on Maschine and the External Keyboard sampler and be able to play notes on the External Midi keyboard sampler trigger Maschine and or Op-Z sounds. And will I be able to then record that midi data from Maschine and the external keyboard sampler into Op-Z or do I need a MIDI THRU somewhere in the chain (or the Oplab?)

Looking to buy an OPZ this week and at B&H you can save a little money if you buy the OPZ and the OP lab at the same time but I don’t want to drop the extra money on the OP lab if I don’t have to.

Yes, this is how all sequencer work that don’t have keyboard. Go midi in from keyboard and midi out to machine. I would go ahead and get the package with both modules because you will end up wanting them anyway so save money now… They both are worth it and really dope. The headphones are cool too and fold to fit in the bag, they don’t have a package with that too though. You will save a bunch from what I paid, they didn’t have a deal like this when I bought the stuff.

So the keys at the end of the chain can play notes on the Op-z at the start of the chain even with the Maschine in between? And vice versa. Its an ASR-10 so i want to be able to play keys for sounds on both maschine and the OP-Z and also be able to trigger samples from the ASR from Maschine and Op-Z while having the midi sequances living in the Op-z.

No.
You have to go from asr midi out to opz in, so it plays what you play on the keys, then midi out via USB to machine to have that play what opz plays… but opz is already playing what asr plays… If that makes sense. Midi has to be in a chain unless you want stuff to play from a multitimbral source on different channels. If you buy a second midi adapter from teenage engineering for your opz then you don’t have to use USB and can use both midi in and out from opz, but module only comes with one adapter.

You have to have a master and slave, none of this back and forth… you pick a sequencer that will be the master and have it control everything… you can use any midi equipped keys to play the opz but that is because it becomes the masters master!! If that makes sense. Please don’t get it the whips… I’m talking music not bondage!!
