@Heyes My field just arrived. It looks awesome, and fortunately no clicking screen. Also no “blooming” even in complete darkness. And no lose battery. Whatelse should I check?
I have had 5 OG OP-1’s in the last 10 years, and this is definately better build.
My serial could indicate, that this is a very early production. It also shipped with one of the first firmware version (or actually 1.2.9). But do we have any idea how to decode the serials on OP-1 field?
Nice to know there are some flawless units! Lucky you.
The blooming, more than anything, is a great news for you.
Under some conditions and angles, mine is still having this weird « loss of color » around the edges.
I guess I’ll have to talk to TE about the one I have now.
My 3 units were all sent/received with that 1.2.9 firmware too. And the serials were from the same production run, I guess.
But I’d be curious to know how we could track down production runs. Interesting thoughts, here.
Anyways.
Glad yours is the flawless one. That’s a relief.
Check for double triggers, check all the ins/outs and mounting the SSD. You never know.
Can’t recall what it is.
But it’s a downgrade - and a big one.
The very fact that TE taunted the new screen as an upgrade was probably a sign that they always knew they were downgrading quality and upgrading the prices. Same with the PO series, in retrospect.
What kind of wizardry is at play for the 10’s series. They doubled up in price for no upgrade at all.
It’s a shame. TE’s management is a bit off. Which makes TE a not-so-much trustable brand rn imho.
We’ll see where they go.
But no innovation, big prices for the sake of the 90´s aesthetic and such…I don’t know…it’s not a 2020ish brand if you ask me.
So sad. Because for a minute there, I think we all thought we had real dedicated engineers/artists working for a better world with innovative products.
The whole Field collection is just about the price tag. Accessories are sub-par, QC non existent, prices are outrageous…sad to see.
Apart from @circuitghost and @sonwu, I haven’t seen much « in the field » reviews. Which says a lot.
The screen, IMHO, is probably the biggest downgrade from the OG1.
It’s just not on par with the price tag.
It’s definitely a cheap screen.
I wrote an email to TE’s support asking for some kind of support to external screen. For many reasons - one being future proofing the device, should the screen die at some point.
They just advised me to go the OP-Z way, with the iPad app.
So yeah. Not a Field device at all.
And all in all, the whole series is just enjoying the Field moniker. But they were probably never intended as a « In The Field » collection of devices. More Boutique than Field if you ask me.
But I might be wrong.
It is, after all, a very portable collection of gear.
I’ve actually never had an issue with the screen outdoors, and I use it a lot outside, like the TP-7.
Wise or not, I use these kits as their name apply, exposing them to just about anything but moist. They might break down on me for that, but haven’t yet, so far.
A friend of mine is using the TX-6 outside (rainy conditions excluded). Pretty happy with it so far.
And I’ve been using the op1f and the OB-4 outside for a week now. Direct sun is definitely not the best of friends, but it works as advertised. Not as sturdy as a Tascam H-series. But does the job.
Thanks for the add-on, @circuitghost . Had to tag you on the hole « Filed in the field » debate!
Hey you know what, I read this post a couple weeks ago and thought that it was a bummer. And now I’m having the same exact issue. The screen has become so bright that I can hardly even see what’s on the screen. I figured out what caused it. Just the slightest amount of pressure on the display and all the black becomes just a light gray, with the halo effect you were talking about. I was just trying to wipe off my display because there was a hair on it, and this happened. It’s pretty disappointing. It does go away though, at least mine does, after a few minutes.
