Title kindof says it all: is the $30 ‘camera connection kit USB’ adapter needed for the iPad to do Midi over USB or could I connect a cheaper, more basic Lightning to USB cable?
the CCK is needed for everything. i think some kind of midi can go through the headphone jack though. moral of the story youll need the expensive CCk for any musical stuff but it works flawlessly alot like coreaudio/midi on MAC.
i use cck-> usb Hub -> cheap ebay usb to midi silver cables(several of them at once); audio interface; and a nanokontrol. all works pretty well together!@
if you have a Lightning-equipped iDevice you need the “Lightning to USB Camera Adapter” and not the Camera Connection Kit. The latter is for Dock-equipped iDevices.
