Teenage engineering’s history of communicating with the world both as a company, and as the devices is sketchy at least. Op1’s crippled audio over USB functions, OPC wonky line modules , The inability to make both devices talk properly to each other and so on.
But now it looks like the OPxy Works much better than this regard. One thing which I think is a big miss is that the midi in is not configurable as a midi out. If you could do that, you could still sequence media gear externally, and use the configurable input as individual out for an effect loop. Or am I missing something here?
I am really curious to see whether the OPxy and the OP 1 and the OpZ Will be able to communicate with each other in a meaningful way. I can’t imagine using the OPz as a sound module and the OP 1 as a tape machine plus sound module. Not sure yet of how I would cable it all together. You would probably need a TX 6 to make it work. And success at bank robbery.
TE seem pretty scatterbrained & somewhat aloof, not nefarious masterminds trying to scam people into buying a ton of gear…why do i say that? your main point is excellent & baffling cause why wouldn’t all their machines connect and sync easily?
enhanced or at least seamless interconnectivity should be a priority and widely advertised if they want users to buy more products
they’ve taken advantage of that during the period of time before TP7s latest update (linking TX + TP opened previously inaccessible channel modes) but it’s perhaps even more odd to realize that PO sync might be the only standard implemented across all TE devices
edit: i totally misread what you were saying here…
there are currently dedicated jacks that acts as trs midi input and output, then the usb port AND ble (wireless) midi which are both bi-directional afaik
what are you hoping to accomplish and why would the midi in jack need to be swapped to make it possible?
If the midi in could be configured as a midi out, I could control a sound module like a Moog Mother and feed it back onto the OPXY.
If you configure the multi port to midi I thought out, how do you get the signal into the OPXY?
On my OP-XY, when I connect it via USB to the OP-Z, I get horrible static in the audio, even when I’m only using USB for MIDI and have an aux cable connecting the OP-Z for audio. I can’t find a way to disable the “charge on” feature on the OP-XY, and disabling it on the OP-Z didn’t make any difference.
Oh my god, they still haven’t fixed this from the OP1f?
That one has an option to disable the charging but it doesn’t do anything and still drains any connected device (tried iPad and iPhone over USB)
Was jamming with op1-field and op-xy last night connected with USB - crystal clear audio, full midi sync and able to control one with the other or vice versa depending on what i set to IN/OUT/BOTH.
I’ve encountered a few problems when syncing the OP-XY with the OP-1 Field:
The sequencer hides notes being played on the OP-XY. I have no idea why, but the notes appear on the keyboard during playback. This only happens when the OP-XY is connected to the OP-1 Field.
Rarely, the tempo randomly stops syncing.
The OP-XY doesn’t appear in the OP-1 Field’s device list. However, the OP-1 Field does show up on the OP-XY.
Hanging notes randomly occur. This issue has persisted for quite some time. It also happened with the OP-Z when connected to the OP-1 Field via USB-C, and it now randomly occurs with the OP-XY as well.
randomly will have a “Undefined Instruction” error and freeze the device.
That said, I also haven’t experienced any static noise when connect. In my opinion, the sync isn’t perfect, and there are still major bugs—but it’s still really fun to play with when synced, and there have been improvements in capability compared to the OP-Z.
