Ram shouldn’t be a problem here I guess. On Digitakt 1 there was 64 mb of ram and we could have 16 patterns per bank x 8 banks of I remember correctly.
It might be due to having to turn a knob to switch patterns and how accurate that is when dealing with a large number of patterns. It’s quite fiddly even now to fast switch accurately, say from pattern 1 to 7 if you’ve got 9 patterns recorded.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love more than 9 patterns per track though.
The fast switching only really applies if you’re wanting to switch patterns live, when you use scenes to make your songs, then that problem doesn’t exist as you’re pre-programming your pattern selections.
