Pick your price

I remember Reason Studios doing this for a Reason Upgrade many years ago. It was actually when they were still known as Propellerhead.

I wonder if its an inventory clean out for the OP-2 Field?

Just finally picked one up at this price! I don’t expect a new OP-1f but I do expect that they saw a sales drop in recent months and are trying to move excess inventory.

The yellow color doesn’t scream “OP-1f” so I don’t know how much the colors will match products overall, but I’m guessing the TX-6 will be the sale item in November, and OP-XY or OB-4 in December just based on the silver and black colors. I doubt either product will have as steep of a discount as the OP-1f, though!

Not following on the “yellow color comment”

the color for this month was yellow but the op1f doesn’t contain any yellow, so the colors may not be coordinated to the product

i’d be ok with that

can’t likely afford an OP2 at launch and even if i do, it’s probably worth letting them work out the firmware bugs that crop up early on…new OP1f at $1400 is the best price i’ve ever seen so if someone actually wants one go for it

seems like a win-win

Purely speculation but can’t help but wonder if they upgrade the memory on it or something like that…

Love the price! If i ever need to replace mine its a little less of a sting to grab one used. I am assuming the used prices will now be more around 1200 to 1100.

that’d sadly be antithetical to how they operate
tp7 has been the only recent device with decent amount of flash memory

or at least the only one with memory allocated for users to access fully and keep a large amount of songs stored on it

True! But pretty competitive environment right now so you never know - will also be interesting to see if we get some new firmware down the pipeline after some momentum builds up off the discount. Personally I love my field - tempted to pick up a backup

What should happen in the market is that a company creates a product and decides on a price. Either it sells enough units to keep the company afloat or it doesn’t. If not, then the company needs to lower the price until it does sell, and then decide if the margins are enough to keep them afloat. You can have high margins and fewer sales or lower margins and many sales and either way, end up with similar revenue dollars.

So, are TE’s margins enough at $1399 to keep the OP-1 Field profitable (we don’t know at what point they have recouped their R & D costs, nor what the cost is to them to build and support it) or would they consider it being a loss leader as a kind of gateway to get people into their other products with better margins? Only TE knows, but if everybody considering buying an OP-1 Field buys it at $1399, that sends a pretty clear message, though it could mean more than one possibility. People simply taking advantage of the price because they can or people who wouldn’t buy it at a higher price now buying at the price they feel it is worth to them. It seems that many people have purchased the OP-1 Field at the price TE has been asking, which would indicate that enough people have wanted it so far to make it worth continuing to build it. Of course, there is also a point of saturation in which everybody who wanted one and was willing to pay the higher price, has, and now they have to drop the price if they wish to continue to sell them with any decent sales figures.

It will be interesting.

Reading it again I think it’s a promotion - like each month is pick your price on a different product maybe? I suppose the mystery is all part of it but if the XY is in December that might be my time!

yes that’s correct, every month a diff product discount. dec looks like an xy kind of month

So since everybody is speculating, let me join as well  Maybe this has something to do with the all-black field line they introduced at Superbooth. So they want to get rid of their “old” colorway and will only sell the black ones in the future. just a guess…

Great! In a few months we’ll see sub $999 price on the used market
