PO-12 demo unit, first impressions

^Awesome; thanks GSA, Lymtronics; for the share. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iwBM_YB1sE

I hope TE have a serial port header or pads to add one so that Midi can be added, I see these type of cheap products as having more value if they can be modded/hacked and from the looks of it maybe TE are anticipating this, I certainly hope so!

I came across this video…

PO-12 x Moog Minifooger

I left a message on YouTube about whether it could be kit form, an the surface mount components argument I totally get actually, a DIY kit would look pretty clumsy. I love what the guys at technology will save us do though in helping people get to understand how this stuff works though. I’d be happy for some makerbot replicator open source case designs and customisation, otherwise ill prob have a go at creating a case anyhow and sharing it. 3d printed buttons and nice tolerances are a faff though so if TE want to get the ball rolling on that, be bloomin awesome. Sign me up!

ah ha!!!

Anyone else amused by the fact that TE went from making one of the most expensive synths in its class (size) to the cheapest drum machine?

^not really. I honestly think the Op1 is very inexpensive. If I went out and bought a tape machine; a synth; sampler; effects unit; mixer. Id have spent far more than the cost of the op1. but thats all hardware while the op1 is digital- I get what your saying though. I think before the op1 came around they were mostly making inexpensive gadgets.

so it seems they are continuing with what ive come to expect from them. alot of bang for your buck.

Stop trying to be logical! :stuck_out_tongue: it’s not expensive for what it’s capable of, I agree.

I wasn’t too interested in the PO-12 until learning it has onboard fx to play with. Given it has an input, I’m hoping it can be used as a cheap/cheerful effects box. I’d pay $50 for some extra filters, bit crushers, etc.

i was expecting a drum machine and maybe a squeeky synth. BUT 16 effects- that blew me away. I also assumed the audio in was just for syncing. But as a digital effects unit! holy crap if it is also an effects unit im gonna buy 12 . like for real im gonna buy several. ohh man im so excited!@

I think that MCU does not have USB… I wonder if the OP-12 won’t support upgrades at all or if they will use the input to flash from an audio file.

Also, for that price, TE may be using the MCU codecs, which are 12-bit (I don’t mean that as a negative point).

tasty tasty 12-bit @punji

^the korg volcas/monotribes receive updates through there audio sync jack.

side note- and this is just my opinion but TE could have never updated the op1 from day one and id still be a fanboy!

For me $50 is so low as to fall into the impulse buy range.

I still fantasize about the volcas, and even the Korg littlebits. But I can’t really justify getting that many more toys when I’ve barely scratched the surface of the OP-1.

I really, really hope they port the drum synths to the OP-1 (as a single nice “PO-12” machine). Sadly I guess this seems unlikely, but it would be really cool if they did

Looks/sounds great!

Definitely getting that little thing.
Are there any ways this talks to OP-1?
Or is there a way that multiple PO-12 modules can sync?

Fun factor is very high, nice design also but still I am afraid it’s to fragile for me.

from any of you that got one of the pre production boards can we get some pictures>?
