I just bought a Volca Sample.
Not that I really NEED it...
But with the summer coming...

^^

Volca Sample is a nice bit of kit. Even if you don’t end up filling it up with noises and loops to construct songs from you can just load it up with all your favourite drum machine samples and have 10 kits at your fingertips that can be xoxo programmed and ‘parameter locked’.

@lyingdalai

But it’s portable. Just take it to the beach and sample some waves and make a sea album

I must say that I really dig the Volcas, even if they are limited.

I played live for 3x 4h with the Volcas + PO-12 this weekend… I sometimes added a MIDI Pocket Piano.
So fond of portable synths !

When I was near a power socket, I would plug all of them in the OT, itself plugged into a bass amp : that was great !!
So I guess I will most definitely enjoy the Sample, that’s for sure.

For some reason I don’t play much with the OP-1 when I have the Volcas : syncing these devices together is not that easy.
I should think about a way to transport all of this + iCM4 so that I don’t have to disconnect everything.
But somehow I feel it would kill the portability factor of it all

^where did you play live? would be killer to see some video of this

Where I was (The deepest part of the very lost Dordogne, in France) they was no WIFI connection, and sometimes not even a cell phone network. No one recorded the performance, it’s lost forever !!

That’s a bit sad, though, cause I played the bass line of Mixomatosis on the Volca Keys and then improvised over it, I had much fun !

I’m not really into recording everything and posting on internet, I don’t really see the point.
But that’s right that I enjoy to watch other people’s performance, so maybe that would be of some interest for someone.
Right now I’m pleased with being able to create music live while people listen to it. That’s enough for me

Yeah, not everything needs to be online… But for us living far away from Dordogne, it would have been nice to see your performance  Ah well, another good reason to travel to France in the future.

Recently picked up a Dave Smith Prophet 12 module off Craigslist for $1300. Just getting acquainted with it, but already am growing quite fond of the sound.

Kenton USB MIDI host, really excited about MIDI syncing the OP-1.

Picked up a PO-16 from Guitar Center on a whim, when I was there to just pick up a cable. I’m loving it much more than I thought I would. Almost every demo I’ve seen hasn’t done it justice. Great food for the OT too. I’m pretty sure I need the PO-14 as well now…already had the PO-12.

Also recently picked up an iPad to replace my dying laptop which I mostly use for web browsing/movie watching. Haven’t decided if I want to go fully into the music app world of this thing, but I did buy Borderlands Granular which is awesome. I had Animoog on my old iPhone from a few years ago, but it’s a bummer the app purchase is separate between iPhone and iPad. Any other apps that are “must have”?

I’d say the Korg Modular. It’s a great little rig that’s awesome for a long plane journey/commute

Just received this bad ass digital drum module from NYC. It’s loaded to the brim with wild and sonically textural sounds. So far, it has similar sound qualities of the PO-12 ( digital crunch ) but further evolved in a way.

for OT mind wrapping, i think Merlin’s guide is a must read. really breaks things down.

I mentioned to my Dad I was looking for a reel to reel. He had one when I was young and he sold it….called me the other day and he purchased it back from the guy he sold it too. Now it’s mine. My Dad rocks!

Won’t have a chance to use it for over a month and in the meantime I am searching for a user manual online….so far no luck….I want to line in with my PO’s and record them and then from the reel to Ableton to make samples! Hopefully get some nice natural tape grit and pop.

Here it is:

Edit: Just found the user manual and service manuals!!

Since my birthday is this week I decided to pull the trigger and ordered a BlueSky Reverberator from Strymon… should have it by the end of the week.

Happy Birthday!

That’s awesome! Will add some character to the POs…well not that they don’t have character already.

yeah @thedrexl - your dad does rock. inspirational stuff  The Akai looks great!

I played my brand new Volca Sample the whole weekend, I’ll try to get a video of a mix of the 10 tracks I got today evening.

This little machine is awesome, it just feels very natural to play with.
The sound is incredible, way punchier than the Volca Beats, that will end soon in the hands of my son

Agreed. The weak snare in particular is a major failing in the vBeats which I have since sold. My kids have fallen for my PO12, it keeps on disappearing from my studio. May have to just get another!

@wildfrontiers Yeah the do have lots of character!

@josker Thank you! Yeah the machine is just very nice to look at. Can’t wait to begin using it.
