This is actually like one of my favorite things ever

^ wow I wasn’t expecting it to be so detailed.

suddenly, monomachine!

oh my…

this arrived http://instagram.com/p/rwTOFaNYXp/

@Kites , it really does look amazing. The original image I had was a 8500x5000 ish resolution scan.
And there is a ton of stuff on it, it is the 909’s entire voicing board, after all.

remember to disable filter tracking if you think it sounds weak/thin @josker, it’s defaulted on everything

Mutable Instruments Ambika

Cheers @KrisM , yeah that seems to be the #1 tip for new Monomachine users

@KrisM yeah PB are great right? Enjoyed your droners BTW, great stuff

z.vex lo-fi loop junky

Love that pedal. Find it used ?

yes. i always wanted to get one and was surprised when i saw it used on ebay. had to get it. dope dirty sound.

They built this with it:

Some Scottish geniuses have built a nine-feet-long Roland TR-909 - Fact Magazine

Not really, they tucked a TR-8 in there, but it’s still nifty (saw it on IDMf).

Oh gawd that’s goofy cool. ^

Just got the Elysia xfilter 500 today..... OMG it sounds so sweet ;o)

@josker what do you think of the Monomachine now? Are you satisfied?

Always been quite interested in that one

@darenager

never thought id see a tim and eric reference on Ohpeewon(i guess i never will…)

@beefinator

i bought an old leslie speaker/amp to fix up and get that psychedelic nonsense going on. first panel I unscrewed had a packet glued to the inside with entire circuit diagram/ schematic. It made me so happy!

@FlyingEmerald well I’m still in the early stages of learning it, but being familiar with the Octatrack sure helps.

It has its quirks - the ADSR is actually an AHDR (hold&decay) and the sequencer is a bit simpler than on the Octatrack; I think neither of the units are at all ideal for capturing the nuances of live keyboard playing in MIDI - of course you can record live, but chords don’t work well, etc. The sequencers have other strengths. You also have to be diligent with saving your kits (all the synth settings) because a pattern change might lose your carefully tuned kit.

That being said, I’m pretty astounded by it. I think that the sounds it can conjure are simply amazing. I don’t really get the talk about it sounding thin or being overly digital… Of course it’s digital, but for me the overall sound works really really well.

There’s a huge amount of different synths to play with, and I’m really still quite confused when trying them out, the scope of possibilities is huge.

It also has a poly mode, which allows you to play one sound with 6 sound polyphony, which is nice.

I think the biggest thing for me so far is how self-contained I can be with the OT and the MM. I’m coming up with new stuff really quick and effortlessly, even if I’m not really familiar with the MM yet. The Elektron train of thought really shines through when using these boxes in tandem - they complement each other extremely well. So far I’ve done percussive stuff with the OT and melodies with the MM, but you could just as well do the opposite.

So, in a nutshell: I often try to go for boxes that are almost self-sufficient, or at least contain large amounts of different sonic possibilities. With the MM, I got that and more. I’m not surprised many guys make music with just the MM. I think that the MM will offer years’ worth of finding new ways to make noise.

I was actually a bit cautious about the MM before getting it: people on the internet had some issues (yep, the Pope is Catholic, etc.) and it’s an “old” unit, which doesn’t matter with a simple synth, but with a workstation type deal, I think it’s more of a thing to be conscious of - many older machines have workflow issues that don’t really cut it anymore. But I have to say, I think the MM was way ahead of its time when it came out, and it’s still unique and very, very cool. I wish I’d had the cash when it came out, my skills would be on a different level by now

Of course, I just got it, but this is my take on it so far.

If you’re interested in some specific detail, I’ll be happy to rant on

yea i totes agree about the MM. very unique sound, so many synth engines and sounds to create!

Not a lot of people pair the OT and MnM @josker, but as you’ve found out they really do compliment each other in a powerful way.

Bill Gates' list would read more like:

Electron Analog Rytm
DSi Prophet 12
Acidlab modular
iPad Air 128GB
OP-1 accessory bundle and OPLAB

Late to the party but there is no way bill gates would buy an ipad!
