Recommended iPad apps

The Launchpad app, which is a guilty pleasure of mine, now has MIDI sync out (IAP), yeah!

Do the instruments you use on it generally display more information or do some of them merely display the same thing but magnified?

TBH, I can only compare it to the iPhone, as I haven’t seen them on the smaller ipads. I do appreciate that w/ xynthesizr, I don’t have to hit a button to scroll back and forth between 1-16 and 17-32. but specifically, I don’t think any of them have released versions exclusively for the iPad Pro. hope this helps.

Something to consider. Thanks.

Necroing this old thread to mention ReSlice. Somebody here recently asked for a software to use for slicing (was it @virtualflannel?), the latest update to ReSlice has an export slices as a zip file functionality, and also, now it has almost all the features a slice recorder should have – I don’t miss my Octatrack nearly as much any more. =) I highly recommend you to check it out!

Was gonna chime in with samplr… It was the first mention 2 pages ago…

Still… SAMPLR

…and a bunch of audio units from:

Apesoft

wish Samplr would get an update

Samplr is getting Ableton Link! Dunno when though, but the author is working on it: https://twitter.com/samplr/status/828388627663040512

Modstep
Animoog
Samplr
Auxy is fun, but not insanely useful

While we're on this subject...
(Possible thread hijack)

I'm rocking an iPad 2, and it struggles to keep up. Using Modstep to send midi sequences through a usb hub to a few outboard synths. Also using SAMPLR (which is amazing).

So... I want to upgrade, but current gen iPad Mini, or the regular one? What say you?

Some time ago Audiospillage said “working on it”, and so did Ina-GRM then took a year for a point update, and so did Teenage Engineering then took until now to ship more OP1 bugs, and now FXpansion’s Tremor is broken in Logic 10.3 and they’re “working on a fix”, so without a definite window that kind of communication is becoming as good as “won’t update”.

I love Samplr. Still, hard to believe it is so popular but still hasn’t been updated for timing. on the topic of Modstep, I’ve noticed that different apps have different midi timing. Garage Band seems particularly bad. Probably not right to throw both in the same paragraph, but it’s also amazing how unresolved the timing problem in general still is.

Audulus, Midiflow, iMPC, Cubasis LE, and (though there are some pretty big limitations) Modular

Daedalus is a pretty powerful delay app and should be mentioned here!

Samplr is an essential tool for me, even in its latest and we must admit, pretty obsolete version. And yes, in a way this is surprising. Strangely, I don’t find the long overdue and still missing Link update much of a problem because there’s an easy workaround to make Samplr run with a tight clock. Most of the time I use it in combo with Patterning and Loopy, where the latter is set to send clock to Samplr AND, via Link, also serves as the slave to Patterning. The possibility to trim samples within the app and fixing the annoying fx crossbleed-bug (it seems to be happening on a regular basis; you turn the reverb up on on any one of the six loops but it bleeds thru to all the other loops as well) are the most ‘critical’ issues in my book of Samplr-update wishes. One day it’ll happen, though it may take another year or even more until it gets updated. I understand the dev has been with Apple for some years now and reckon he doesn’t have too much free time on his hands. So the waiting continues.

Flux :fx is dope.

I love TweakyBeat! It’s free and very nice fro synth drums. Most of the time I record the sequence into the sampler

@kurbelinduktor yeah Tweakybeat is a real gem, been using it for years. Great as a drum box but also sound design if you use one sound with one trigger - mental!

I’m not sure how you mean one sound with one trigger… could you explain it, sounds nice!

I’m starting to look forward to whenever this next Gadget release comes out. I’m in a weird “don’t know what I want to do next musically” phase and sometimes that’s an excuse to buy hardware that I don’t really need or want but hope will fix whatever I feel is wrong with me  . So I’ve started giving Gadget another, deeper look than I have in the past. But I really want this ‘iCloud’ (or whatever cloud service the use) option to easily move between iPhone (use while moving around the city or on breaks at work), iPad (use on the couch or patio), and the coming Mac version.

Beyond that, I’ve mostly been using some of the other Korg synth apps as sample fodder for the Octatrack and amuse myself by using the Octatrack to sequence the iPad as a synth.

I need to put TweakyBeat on my iPad. I play with it on my iPhone sometimes and then think “I’d like to sample this drum loop into OT or OP-1” but then remember I have to fish around for that stupid headphone adapter for the stupid headphone-jack-less iPhone 7.

@jshell, I use audio share on my phone to record TB and then plug in a mem stick to transfer the files across…
I recommend a memory stick, I’ve got a 64gb one, iDiskk pro it’s called, can get a lot of stuff on there!
Also I think you can email TB settings?

Smart me just figured out this weekend that cloud-sharing of files is possible already in Gadget! I never picked up on this before and thought it was something planned for the next big update. During a power outage this weekend I got a bit done on Gadget on iPad and jammed out a little on the OP-1.
