I’ve noticed a lot of unreliable action on my red (levels) encoder, for the last month or two.
For example, I’ll be on the main tape screen, and I’ll turn the red knob to gradually increase the input level… it’ll spastically leap from, say, 25% to 40-50%, then down again, as I’m smoothly and slowly twisting it clockwise. Basically, jumping up and down, doing it’s own thing. The same thing happens when I’m adjusting the LP dial in “Nitro”, and etc. Seems to be exclusive to the red knob.
This is worrying.
Any ideas?
i would try spraying the pot with contact cleaner (deoxit or similar)
if its just dirty, this will flush it out and make it awesome again.

Thanks. I’ll try that. Do I just pull off the knob, and spray in the cavity, or do I have to disassemble?
looks like u can get away w/ just pulling off the knob and spraying the pot
i usually try to spray it in the lil crevice around where the pot turns and meets the housing as much as i can get it, if that makes sense.
u wanna get the cleaner inside the pot as much as possible.
spraying the outside of a pot isn’t going to do much.
spray then twist knob a bit to work the stuff around.
let it sit for a minute then check it, then repeat if necessary?
try not to get it everywhere! it can be a mess to clean.
a lil goes a long way but its hard to get inside the pot.
hopefully its just dirty and not wearing.
usually 1-2 applications works for me, unless its really really dirty then more applications and time for the cleaner to do its thing helps
if it doesn’t help after all that, u might need a replacement…?
i have fixed so many wonky pots, buttons, jacks, etc w/ this stuff, thinking it needed to be repaired or replaced.
nope just needed a lil TLC.
