Hey everyone, Tug here, I make Reel.
For anyone new to it: Reel is a 4-track tape style recorder for iPhone.
You record, overdub and bounce like on a cassette 4-track, the disc
scrubs like real tape, and it’s built to catch ideas fast.
1.5 went live this week and it’s the biggest update yet, 46 new
features. The headlines:
- MIDI sync over USB: grooveboxes and synths start and stop with the
tape. OP-1 Field and KO II run beautifully over one cable - Looper: set a length in bars, the take ends on the bar and loops.
Hit record mid-loop and the next take drops in at the top - Reverse: play, record and loop backwards
- DJ Mode: the disc becomes a turntable, scratch the track you just made
- Master Record: prints your whole jam live, exactly as you play it
- MIDI learn for any controller, Ableton Link, a new mixer,
multi-output, a bars timeline, cue pads and plenty more
We made a video of a track being jammed out with a KO II, an OP-1 Field
and a TX-6, all the music recorded in Reel:
Everything new in 1.5, plus the App Store link, is on the update page
on the Reel site, and I’ll add the direct link here as soon as the
forum lets a new account post more than one.
One purchase, no subscription.
I’m around in this thread all weekend, so ask me anything. Most of 1.5
started as user requests, so honest feedback genuinely shapes what
comes next. If you hit bugs I want those most of all.
