Replacement Screen for OP-1

Hi all. I’m in need of some help finding a new screen for my OP-1. I see there are some discussions on the forum about this, but they are older and the suggestions/links people provided are no longer in existence. I have searched online, and written dozens of companies with the screen specs, and so far everyone has responded to say they do not have a screen matching those specifications. I have also written Teenage Engineering support, but it is now going on three weeks with no response.

I opened up the unit and spent an extensive amount of time playing with the ribbon cable connection to make sure this wasn’t the issue.
The screen is completely dead, totally dark, no illumination at all. Everything else functions perfectly.

I am in the US, but at this point I’d be willing to order from overseas if needed. I’d also be happy to send it in for repair, if I can just manage to make contact with TE support sometime this calendar year.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

This is what I was afraid of. No one knows. It seems as though compatible screens for the OP-1 are non-existent.

If they are still selling units then this shouldnt be a problem for them to replace. I wouldnt be discouraged just yet…only hammer off more emails/tweets etc. Some folk give TE an easy ride because they are a small company, but for the prices they sell everything expect the PO series at, they should have a good support term in place. Good luck efada. (my op-1 has a dodgy input connection, flakey speaker…3 years in of careful use. Love the machine, just think that many of the materials used are cheap components).

Let us know. I’m holding on to my 2nd op1 for now, mainly for spare parts.

I thought the same thing…wonder if they are gonna change the architecture of the OP-1 in future.

I would be very surprised. But I would welcome it… Unless it meant I couldn’t repair my op¹ in the future, in the case of not wanting the “improved” build.

I’ve done some docs on the hardware (unfinished drafts). The screen specs are here: https://github.com/op1hacks/docs/blob/draft/hardware.md#display

Basically if you search for the part number and resolution you’ll find lots of sellers with the display. For example: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20180507045355&SearchText=74-X000045

As far as I can tell they’re selling the exact same model as TE uses, but it’s hard to be 100% sure.

Clever! That looks like the one I pulled out of my old OP-1… I’m tempted to buy one soon, and test it…

not trying to be clever but have you tried phoning them ?

They already changed it and that is why the new models are more expensive. There are at the moment 3 different screens available.
