Can’t decide if this is a joke or an insult… I mean we’re looking at a 900+ EUR piece of gear here… I do like the OP-1 but can’t say I’m fond of TE’s shenaningans and attitude…
Yep, it’s pretty gross. I pushed back to get more information on the warranty for the new processor. Crickets.
I’m selling mine as soon as I get it back from repair.
Should we organise a poll, in order to detect possible patterns? I confess I haven't followed the update problem discussions recently, but this worries me a lot!
One common factor that seems to emerge is those who had trouble w/ 225, had previously been playing with the beta OS.
@minorscience The amount of people that post on here with issues (i/o, bricked units, weird battery and startup issues etc) was one of the reasons I considered to sell recently, while mine’s fully working and prices are good… Couldn’t bring myself to do it in the end. Hopefully don’t regret it!
So yeah, I share the feeling of not being too sure about TE as a company. Like it seems weird how they haven’t upped the overall quality over the years (or reduced the price). Things like not being able to use the onboard mic to record to tape without super audible CPU interference/metronome thing is something you’d have thought they’d wanna tidy up.

That’s my concern I’m on the public beta still… Dunno whether to straight update or factory reset.

I’ve always felt that the OP-1 was fragile. The fact that TE doesn’t maintain their own forum tells you that they really don’t want to hear directly from the rabble. Then again, if someone from TE wants to weigh in, I’ll be happy to eat my shoe!
The monome people are very active on their forum and I assure you they have far fewer resources than TE. On the other end of the spectrum, I get great results from Korg customer service and tech support!
Alright enough of my rant. I’m selling my OP-1 when/if I hear back from service. Keep an eye out, will be priced to move. Proceeds are going toward something that doesn’t break when I look at it.
I played a few mins last night after updating, testing how the slave MIDI sync works now, then the OP-1 crashed, the dump message showing something about MIDI, so I suspect the slave sync crashed it. Did a factory reset, let’s see if the problem will be replicated. I’ve had a crash or two before, after updating firmware, but never again after doing a factory reset…
Still think we should make the poll to find out possible factors affecting the "bricking potential".
I think there’s only one such factor and it usually goes by the names ‘chance’ and ‘bad luck’ I, for one, think that TE is now looking way beyond the OP-1, they are focusing on the OP-Z and who knows what else. They are innovators and always appear to be really interested only in their ‘next big thing’. And maybe they see the OP-1 as an obsolete gadget from the past, I don’t know. The way they handle OP-1 issues is kinda OK, but it seems this is becoming more like a PITA for them. I hope I’m wrong.
My upgrade to 225 was from beta versions, in which I deliberately crashed things in order to send videos to TE. Can’t fault the thing if going to 225 with those artefacts wasn’t smooth.
And here’s the important bit - I wiped it clean, upgraded to 225, and haven’t had issues since.
Does anyone have 218 lying around? I’m still on the beta and I’d rather first go to 218 than straight to 225. OP-1 OS Updates unfortunately does not list 218

I never played around with the beta OS.
I’m not saying that everybody who has had trouble with 225 was playing with a beta OS. Even if there really is a trend, every trend has exceptions.
Upgraded 218 to 225 without so much as a single little hint of a problem. (Only been on on non-beta versions starting from, I believe, the one prior to 218, don’t remember which.)
Got my factory new OP-1 last week and updated to 255 before doing anything with it. Haven’t experienced anything out of the ordinary while getting to know all the bells and whistles and creating my first two tracks. It pretty much behaves exactly like the manual, the YouTube videos and my intuition tell me it should.
