Simple enquiry - drag n drop functionality

Hey Gang,

First post! Going to pick up an OP1 soon for portability, fun, and getting me away from computers (I spend all day on them). I have a decent studio setup with Pro Tools Ableton, Maschine, some synths and outboard etc, which I know well and have a great workflow/output with, but I have an OP1 sized whole in my life that needs to be sorted! I also commute 2 hours a day to work, and I’ve found working on my MBP really difficult in this time - hoping the OP1 will help this.

I have one basic enquiry though, regarding connecting the OP1 to CPU via USB for transfer of files. After you’ve dragged the files across to your DAW/HD/Desktop/Whatever, if you then alter the files (e.g. record something different to tape mode), does it change in real time within the OP1 connetion on the CPU? This is essentially how I use maschine - make a drum loop, drag it from maschine into DAW, then if I feel something was off (like the snare is too low, needs a different hihat), I can do a quick edit and drag the new version into the DAW.

Also, does the OP1 output midi data from the sequencers? Hard to find exact info on this.

Thx!

Mill

The op-1 acts like a USB-drive when connected to the computer in disk-mode. Copy and drag to DAW. You have to exit disk-mode to make changes to tape, so to make the changes in the daw you’ll have to go back to disk mode and copy the tape again. Furthermore, the tape-tracks are 6 min long, no matter how much of the tapespace used, wich makes dragging and dropping i little tiresome. I usually just record via audio interface, getting it in sync straight away. Make new recording to edit something. Make miditrack in daw, playback op-1 and adjust in realtime. The sequencer sends midi! So making miditracks in daw is simple enough!

Oh man, that’s a bit annoying! Good to know it’s got good midi connection though - even though you need a hub for external stuff, I usually use my Maschine MIDI ports for this. Thx for the info!
