Stranger Things on netflix

Anyone else watching it? 4 episodes in to it. Great so far. Big Spielberg/Stephen King/80s/classic synth soundtrack vibes. Weird thing to post but seems like a lot of us on here grew up in the 80s so just giving a little heads up for those that might dig it

Binge watched all 8 episodes over the weekend.

It’s like a mashup of The Goonies, Poltergeist and E.T and takes ‘moments’ from many Spielberg classics. Based in the 80’s the soundtrack is amazing and lots of John Carpenter sounding synth ambience.

Even the opening titles and artwork are period perfect.

Haha, sweet  I caught most of the rest of it today. Season finale tonight…
Coolest TV I’ve watched in a long time…

I read that the two main guys quit their full times jobs when the band got the job of doing the soundtrack so they could concentrate full time on the work.

It was worth it  soundtrack is great.

This sounds great! Just need to wrestle Netflix from the kids…

i enjoyed it. Looking forward to season 2. I always loved Scifi and thick analog scifi soundtracks are always a plus!!!

Just binged and loved it.

The kids will love it too

Seriously though, it’s not TOO scary. If you let your kids watch Transformers or IronMan and that kind of stuff then I doubt they’d be too messed up watching this.

I dunno man, some pretty dark stuff for young kids! Prob not advisable for any kids with occasional boogie man/monster fears  my eldest is only 4 tho so I’ve yet to figure out what age kids can cope with stuff like this. She still gets scared when the fox chases Peter rabbit

Great series though. Excited for season 2.

Yeah, same here... even the slightly camp cravat wearing fox! Mine are 5 and 8, will maybe have a sneaky watch of the first episode myself and gauge the tone.

I was 6 when ET was released and that’s pretty scary in some bits. I can remember my friend leaping over the sofa in fright when elliot and ET meet and scream but never did it scar us.
Probably watching Freddy Krueger carving up US neighbourhoods when I was about 9/10 lol.

8 year old should be fine surely.
Compared to some of the stuff they could end up seeing on standard terrestrial TV if they are up past their bedtime.

I bet after the 1st episode they’ll be loving it as much as you

I was 5 when went to see ET at cinema, scared the bejeezus out of me, especially the smarties / shed scene. Not nearly as terrifiying as Superman 3 when, at the end, one of Lex's cronies gets assimilated by a machine and her eyes turn white. Cue my big brother sticking a couple of imperial mints over his eyes and giving me the scare of my life, never screamed so loudly before or since!

The only actual TV we watch is Masterchef so their exposure to scares are largely through family friendly films which can sometimes unnerve them, more the 5 year old granted. The one exception is Jurassic Park which they are oddly
immune to.

Dude that bit in superman 3 freaked me out! E.T m&ms bit made me jump badly too but don’t remember being scared much by it overall. Cried my eyes out when he ‘died’ tho
I’d say Stranger Things is a lot darker than both of those! Has a kind of subtle Pan’s Labyrinth/Nightmare On Elm Street feel sewn in to it.
@spacetravelmadeeasy I watched the first nightmare on Elm Street at my cousins house around the same age as you. I still remember the f#cked up dream I had that night! Freddie in an omni-directional elevator!?! Scarred…

Dude this show is the best. Totally speaks to the '80s kid in me. The only problem is that I have to keep pausing to play synths. https://www.instagram.com/p/BIO_Tmvg1Tr/?taken-by=wi_ngo Check out the guys Survive who made the soundtrack. Great stuff.
