So I’m preparing for a 1 hr live set with the op-z. I have a couple of patterns across different projects that I want to use. I created these over the last years, so they have wildly different mixer settings, volume & compression levels… what is the easiest way to get them all to the same overall volume/punch level for a smoothish change between them?
I’ve performed several hour-long sets using the OP-Z. Although it wasn’t the only device, it played a key role. If you need to balance the volume, you’ll have to do it manually. But there are other workarounds For example, here’s what I did for transitions: if you’re switching between presets with drastically different volume levels, you can mask the jump with a noise effect, like loading a long up-rise sample onto the OP-Z and adding reverb to it. If the transition happens within the same project, the sample will keep playing even after switching to the next pattern. Also, I recommend muting loud instruments during such transitions and reintroducing them gradually afterward, so listeners don’t notice an abrupt change in volume.
