Question for you guys out there using the Novation LCXL with the OP-Z: I want to turn this combo into a super-compact live techno performance beast and trying to achieve a good balance between maximizing the accessible parameters and minimizing the need to switch between LCXL templates. Here are my thoughts so far:
For each track, I’m collecting the performance-oriented parameters that give the most mileage… naturally there are more than knobs on the LCXL so I’m thinking about using multiple templates and then switch between them like pages, but keeping some of the parameters the same on each template or at least have some redunancy for the most important ones.
E.g. I plan to keep the faders and bottom button rows the same on each template: Fader for track gain 1-8 (so Tape gain also needs to find a home somewhere…), Mute and Active Track for each Track (to avoid the OP-Z button combo to select active track).
Another idea is to use Step Count as a knob parameter, it’s fun to mess with on some tracks.
Anyway, just wanted to gather ideas from other LCXL users, or folks who use similar midi controllers with the OP-Z for live techno-ey stuff…
I have the LCXL Mk 2, not sure if the new one is worth the upgrade for me. I also have the plastic overlays to document things, but in the end it should be muscle memory ![]()
