synthwave/outrun/retrowave etc

Anyone make 80s style synthwave on the op1? I’m a big fan of this style of this genre and was curious if anyone here dabbles on nostalgia

Check out @bitapart can’t recall seeing him on the forum for a minute, but he makes op1 music in the style you mention.

Oh yeah, the Op-1 makes an appearance in most all my synthwave-y tracks!

This one’s about 1/3 Op-1, 1/3 Juno60, and 1/3 DX7:

I lost this thread when i remembered the name… id venture this genre is right up @tribrix’s alley

Although it is not synthwave/outrun style, my music is influenced by this 80’s synth styles and 100% made with the OP-1. Here is an example, check my other tracks too:

Nice work!

I got bored one afternoon & tried to recreate the Paperboy tune… can’t get enough of that 80’s Atari speech sampling & FM!

I am glad you like it

Wanna try synthwave myself but am new to both the op-1 and electronic music making. The number of stock sounds and what you find online is overwhelming. Any suggestions on which stock sounds fit well with synth wave or packs to download?

Wis synthwave influenced by 80 electronic pop and more melodic 80s dance genres like italo?

If so then… for drums try linndrum, linn m1 and drumtraks. Or use Korg ms10 to make drums. Use its low pass filter for kick. Use white noise for snare and hats.

For synths use Roland Juno’s and jx poly synths.
The essential ingredient here is the Roland chorus and the arpegiator.

Maybe Avoid the Yamaha dx. It was later in the 80s and will push your sound more into late 80s and 90s pop house like black box robin c and c and c music factory or house.

For samplers try the emu emulator 2 and ensoniq mirage.

See synthmania’s YouTube channel for instructional videos on techniques from this period. Paulo really knows his stuff.

Apologies if this is all irrelevant and has nothing to do with the current genre you’re calling synthwave. I can’t remember hearing the term in the 80s.
