Te tp-7

Since I don’t see a sub-forum for the TP-7, I am putting this under “Other Gear”. Anyway, I just received my TP-7 last week. I noticed that, on playback, it would sometimes glitch as if I had touched the wheel. Since it didn’t happen every time, I knew it wasn’t in the recording. This was verified by copying the file to my Linux laptop and playing it there.

Searching the net for any other mention of this problem, I found one and the responses generally indicated that the poster with this issue should send the TP-7 back to TE as a faulty unit.

However, I spent some time working with the wheel, jogging stuff back and forth and just using the device. I am no longer experiencing the problem. I suspect that the wheel has loosened a bit with use, not that it was noticeably tight, but with use it just seems the problem has not manifested itself in several days so far.

So if you experience this problem, just try jogging the wheel back and forth a bit before playing after having heard that glitch and the next play should go just fine. Do that a few times and you probably won’t get that glitch anymore.

that is good to know. i know that the tp7 manufacturing tolerances, like all the field system, are very tight and sometimes will nicely wear in with a bit of use. i noticed my tp7 buttons were tight in the first few weeks and i was nervous about it but after about of month of using it they felt totally fine and have been working perfectly ever since.

I had the same experience when I first got my TP-7. I thought I had received a defective unit or pushed the wheel out of alignment somehow while using in those first few days. I didn’t really mind the glitch though, I convinced myself that it added character to the device like a wobble to an old tape machine so it never bothered me enough to send it back for a replacement. Overtime this glitch has gone away and the device has smoothed out.

none of us should tolerate glitches for a device that costs 1.5k usd and doesn’t advertise character in the wheel playback. that said i still stand by the idea that it does make sense not to overreact too soon and send the product back immediately because the tolerances are so tight that just a bit of use can fix a lot of issues. any remaining issues though are worth an RMA, which TE is very good at honoring btw
