The Legacy Collection, Vol. 3: GM Instruments | Sound Pack | OP-1 Field

Have you ever wondered why your recent $2,000 OP-1 field doesn’t include a General MIDI-compatible sound bank like virtually every synthesizer from the past 30 years -or even every PC since Windows 3.1 back in 1992?
If so, the new sound bank “The Legacy Collection, Vol. 3” is exactly what you’ve been waiting for.

This collection was crafted from the GM programs of Korg’s flagship workstation, the legendary “Big O” released in 2005. These sounds strike the perfect balance: they respect the General MIDI standard while preserving the natural, high-quality character that made the Oasys iconic.

Inside, you’ll find 128 stereo sounds, carefully extracted from my archives or digitally re-recorded. Each sample was selected at the pitch that delivers the best tone across at least two octaves (often more). Some sounds feature decays exceeding 9 seconds at C4 for a truly natural fade, while others include meticulously placed loop points for seamless sustain.

This collection lets me recreate the Oasys vibe on my OP-1 field -and now you can too. It’s available for download today. Fair warning: with 128 high-quality stereo samples, the file size is substantial. Since the original OP-1 is monaural, stereo channels may be downmixed to mono. However, this has not been tested: use at your own risk.

Finally, a note of appreciation: this project took over 100 hours of painstaking work, especially to fine-tune every loop point. If you’d like to support the effort, optional contributions are always welcome and greatly appreciated!
