TING HARD RESET - custom fw, EDITOR? etc

TING or EP-2345 is based on a Raspberry 2050 chipset.
It has a Raspberry SDK paragraph in the product page.

Somebody has successullly cracked the method to change the default TARZAN sound with its own.. and didn’t tell how he did it…

On TE manual page there’s no mention of the method… or how to select past the four presets sapmples… so I assume anything added in the Disk will replace one of the four
basic saamples (The 2050 has something like 1.5 Mb of RAM… maybe more, or less, but not much)

Connecting TING gives either “TING BOOT” or just “2350” folder on your raspberry-linux, mac or etc. pc. when entering upgrade mode. Should be the same in theory.
But I got a pdf file with the content mentioned in another thread posted here.
That pdf got corrupted on my TING and I can’r read it anymore.
Updating Fw and reconnecting still gives the same 1.0 version.

PLease confirm if updating TING for you also the version remain 1.0.
It could be an approximation… Idk.
My version arrived this 1 December Monday and should be the latest Fw but not sure the date of packaging is late enough.

I wrote TE and asked if e possible TING WEB TOOL could be released so we could get some access to TING features.
I find this very hard to happen. Easier could be that they release new firmware with
new PRESETS, as I really dislike TARZAN voice, I prefer a classic DUB SIREN…
Maybe change the LFO type with the press of the trigger… or the SPEED of the LFO… with the shaking… a mixed LFO-EFFECT.FX kind of…

I would do it in a heartbeat if I knew how to write the json for TING but I don’t have the DATA to do it… or know how to debug the TING so know which addrss is the trigger, which is the preset folder… and the temptation to try code it is too big to ignore…

We just need a PICO SDK , with a raspberry PI OS it’s a joke…

But we don’t have a HARD RESET button… and it is very likely to brick the TING
given we have no info on it and we have to try write casual pieces of CODE to it…
just to establish a communication with a raspberry Pi so we can debug it…

Manual say put a sample in DISKBOOT, reset unit, and then what should happen?
It do not say… nothing happen…

So I asked for a HARD RESET fw that we can upload to the unit so we can re-start from scratch if we brick it trying to change the default samples or what a DUB SIREN-LFO should be on a reaggae machine…

14 days is the return policy, one week already passed…
If in 4 days I don’t get to know how it work I will return the unit.

I was worried I had problems with it and I didn’t alter the packaging.
I really want this to work but I know raspberry don’t even like standard DIN MIDI BAUD for their devices and have closed down the system from the PI5 on, leaving only
baremetal programming alive with a lot of trouble for older projects…

So is Arduino these days in deep trouble…
So I really don’t envy TE devs right now…
But what guarantee do we have that there will be a future release of a TING-editor
Tool lie there is for the EP-40??? Or new fw updates with an actual DUB-LFO-FX Siren working with the gyroscope, trigger and buttons on the 2350???

PLease any update or discovery make it available for everyone, my money is too low to justify for another raspberry nightmare in the making…

Ok, I found out how the TING sample loading works. Samples are called 1_.wav in the TING disk folder, just take the _dash away and leave the sample 1.wav - it will replace the original sample n.1 try put a new sample and call it 4.wav, reset unit, take out usb cable, and now you will have your sound. I would like a new dub siren with LFO speed and waves changin’ but dunno how to do that.. yet… ONE LOVE!

Update update: TE has responded, just told me it’s a .json file… that which my MAC deleted because MAC OS TAHOE is a “xxxxxxx” just stay with Big Sur or Ventura if you can!!!

That initial json file it’s all it’s needed to “RESET” the TING to default.

Now, it’s not TE fault if my MAC deleted the Json and corrupted the pdf README…

It’s MY FAULT that I’m not using my LINUX PC…

Be sure to never, EVER, use cheap USB CHARGERS anyway, with TING connected…

TAKE OUT THE BATTERIES!!! Tis is a general advice to everyone (me included) as these cheap usb chargers (even 12 Eur ones…) can explode in HOLY SMOKE!!! and bring down every electronics

connected to it… (Usually they downsize the protection DIODES ANYWAY, even on expansive chargers - what happens is the 5V or 12V, short to GND… and small GND protection DIODES if not BIG enough can easily be overlwhelmed by the spike…)

That said…

TING is working fine and it’s a blast!

Happy NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!
