Tp-7

I’m was tempted to just keep mine but I’m having a problem with one of the tiny buttons next to the wheel now. Sometimes when I push it becomes stuck. Almost like there is a small piece of sand in it or something. I’ve never taken the unit out of my bedroom.

i would RMA it if i were you. your patience will pay off. the device is amazing and worth getting one that is perfect condition.

Lots of new features in the latest update. Is anyone syncing playback/record of TP-7 with OP-1 or other MIDI devices? Super curious if that is possible and how well it syncs.

Is there a simple way to have 12ch connection between the TP7 and TX6 while simultaneously syncing clock/start/stop with other devices? For example, using an op1f to sync play/stop or sending a clock out to a modular synth? So far, I’ve tried a usb-c 1:2 splitter cable (Amazon.com: MOGOOD USB C to Dual USB C Female Adapter, 2 Ports, Not for Monitor and Charging, Incredibly Durable, Super Fit, 5V/0.9A Power Output : Electronics) and a Belkin connect USB-c to dual port usb-c (Amazon.com: Belkin Connect USB-C™ to Dual-Port USB-C Adapter, Hub Dongle with 2 USB-C 3.2 Gen2 Ports & 100W PD with Max 10Gbps High Speed Data Transfer for MacBook, iPad, Chromebook, PC, and More - White : Electronics), with no joy.

Been curious about these things as well. You might get more reponses over in the elektronauts forum.

im not an expert in the midi protocol, but AFAIK, there is no way to achieve this with a simple “wire” solution. in other words, this type of midi “mediation” requires a processor of some kind, even if its small (i.e. some of these midi options look like wires but actually have a nodule with a processor in it). what i believe most folks use is a midi hub of some kind. but lets let others chime in too bc i dont want you to take my word for it

I think problem lies in USB protocol and the concept of host device. Just chaining USB devices together with a hub isn’t going to change that.

It does seem like a flawed design provided that the only way to get midi in/out and power w/OP-1F is with that single USB jack.

Similar issues with TP and TX- single USB jack that needs to support lots of functionality.

Been asking around trying to find someone that has OP, TX, TP connected-

TX and TP passing audio over USB to each other and at the same time clock transmitted between OP and TP over USB.

A quick update. This doesn’t solve everything, but for one of my uses, pairing the TP7 with the OP1F via BLE works perfectly for syncing start/stop between the devices while the TP7 and TX6 are connected in 12ch via USB-C (all latest firmware). If I can find an appropriate WIDI BLE dongle that connects to the Buchla (200e, with a Studio.h WPM for MIDI), all my bases will be covered. Maybe someone has suggestions for a dongle, and if not I’ll update this if/when I find a solution.

Edit: I’ll be testing a CME WIDI Bud Pro on the Buchla, hopefully this weekend

Yes, I was going to say - with TP7 connected via USB to TX6 and Op1 sending midi via BLE you can sync the TP,TX and OP as a system together. I do wish that there was a way of sharing the ports better. A box you could plug all devices into would be really handy. Maybe that’s the XY? Almost definitely not though

Pretty picky about a tight clock. Are transports all behaving well and haven’t noticed any drift? Is BLE from OP-1F working well ?

Can you still have OP-1F output clock over USB as well to other devices?

It will send clock over USB also. To be clear, over BLE it seems to send start stop, not actual clock. So you have to tell the TP7 what BPM you are recording at BEFORE you hit record if you want to use the ‘bars’ feature on the TP7. You can’t change the BPM of a recording afterwards either.
Sync between the TP and OP is ok - it’s not perfect. If you want to overdub I find it records ok but whilst you are actually recording due to lack of monitoring options it’s a bit of a mess.

So sounds like only way to overdub, or record additional tracks AND hear previously recorded material is if you have the TX plugged into TP?

You can hear previously recorded material through the TP-7 headphone jack while overdubbing or recording new tracks. It doesn’t play out of the TP-7’s speaker though, maybe to avoid feedback etc.

Ahh good to know!

Hey all. So I have a couple questions about the TP-7 and connectivity with the TX-6. I have a feeling I’m going to be disappointed but it can’t hurt to ask.

  1. When recording into the TP-7 via one of the 6 inputs from the TX-6 do I have to unplug whatever is in say channel 1 when I want to record into another channel? I thought there was a way in the TX-6 to route things some how.
  2. Overdub is a cool feature on the TP-7. I’m wondering if there is a way to loop on the TP-7 instead of having to stop and record another layer.

Edit- I guess I a workout around for the input thing would be to buy a 4-6 channel mixer. Someone probably makes a one input
4/6 output mixer. Actually that means I would have to have a shitload of cables as well. ughhh.

You would need at least 6 busses on that mixer to avoid having to unplug/plug things in differently so you could for example, record a source plugged into ch1 into a track other than track 1.

Far from elegant. Was there not a FW update that allows channel to track assignments on either TX or TP?

I thought there was an update. I found a work around actually. I’m going to send a pic and describe what I’m doing.

Aight!! So I had this Qu-Bit splitter made for Eurorack at my disposal and it worked great.
Hopefully I can find some short stereo cords that will fit nicely into the TX-6
I’m not sure if it’s true stereo or not but it’s fine for now. (when you plug a stereo cord into the TX-6 it asks if you want mono, stereo or split and I select split. The stereo only plays the left side)
Qubit has these only their website. There are many different brands that make them though. They are only like 8-9 bucks….

If it’s only playing the left side, it sounds like it is likely only a TS connection. I’ve been trying to find a similar device with TRS connections myself, but having found one quite yet. The hunt is on.

Got it! Thx. I’ll let you know if I find something.
