Hey! I figured out recently how to load the ep-40 riddim’s firmware onto a 64MB ep-133 unit. I disclosed this to teenage engineering, who asked that I share that this isn’t supported and indicated there could be potential NOR flash issues, and then wrote a blog post with the details about how it works. Sharing that walkthrough blog post here, as well as the tool I developed with AI to facilitate the cross-flashing process.

I’m with TE here - probably not worth following this process! I’ve using mine pretty heavily over the past few weeks with this firmware flash though and it’s been pretty much fine.

Sharing the technical details and accompanying tool because I think it’s genuinely interesting how this works and figured the community at large would agree it’s pretty cool. But, again, I take no responsibility for anything that happens with your ep units if you do choose to follow along.

Thank you for your interesting post, and for risking your EP-133 to try it. I had been wondering for some months now if the EP-133 would ever get the supertone synth engine, or another synth engine. As I own the EP-40 as well as the EP-133 I won’t be trying this, as knowing my luck, what worked on yours might not on mine.

I have also just ordered the 128mb version KO2. I wonder whether there are other hardware changes under the hood on the newer 128mb version KO2 rather than just increased RAM, and if so then TE might make an OS change to include a synth. The downside to this would that a) it might annoy OG 64mb KO2 owners and b) would make the product line a bit disjointed. I’ll await with interest.
