TX-6 Buffer Underrun and USB playback crashes

Ever since the USB recording/playback was introduced for TX-6 I have been experiencing playback crashes.

On the 1_2_13 firmware the freeze would occur often at exactly 1:55 timing during the playback of files that were recorded on that USB. Different files would freeze (or choke with a bit of stutter) at that same time. The only way to get out of this would be to power cycle the unit.

On the 1_2_15 firmware the freeze happens at differnt times, and the mixer nwo displays “BUFFER UNDERRUN” message, while the rest of the behavior is like before: freeze, stutter, and power cycle needed to get out of it.

Effectively I am unable to play back on the device, the files that the device recorded.

I submitted a report to TE, but I am curious if anyone else has experienced these (can you replicate this behavior on your unit?) and if anyone was able to effectively remedy this problem.

Thanks in advance,
p.

PS
I am using this SAMSUNG drive, based on recommendations of folks who found it reliable:

Is it every time you play things back, or just sometimes? I often record to USB and /sometimes/ play it back in-mixer, but I’ve never seen this message.

Recording works fine, but playback stalls every single time.

does the TX6 have like a factory reset type of function?
maybe just needs to clear some cobwebs…?

have u tried formatting the usb drive again? or in a different way?
maybe something isn’t lining up or playing nice?

Thank you for chiming in.
It’s the only drive I used with it.
I am pretty sure I have formatted the drive when I first used it, but maybe it’s not a bad idea to wipe it clean and reformat.

Hey laborcamp,

I have the same issue with the same samsung usb drives. When I try to play certain recordings on the device some are problematic. strangely others recordings are fine. I have had this issue a bunch now. I feel like it got more frequent. I tried formatting the drive and that made it go away for a while but the issue always comes back after some time. I thought it was maybe the drive since I had a 256GB one so I bought a second one. A 128GB. Maybe the 128GB one is more stable from my experience. But unfortunately I dont use this method to record very often anymore. Especially because sometimes I need to have the device plugged in to a power source and that requires using a usb hub if you want to plug in a thumb drive. At this point I use the aux out to an h4n pro field recorder that I like very much. Im still on version 1.2.13 currently.

I’m curios if anyone else has had issues with other USB drives?

Hi,
Sorry to hear you are having this issue. But also: thanks for sharing! I thought I was the only one!
I reformatted mine, and it seems to work, but, like you, I started using that function less and less given the instability. I thought that reformatting fixed my issue (did not experience it after), but I think I just have not been using it enough, based on your observation of it returning after some use.
It really is a bummer.
I don’t understand how other folks might be using this combo and not experience these problems… what could the variables be?
Anyway: thank you again for your insights!
