Thanks for mentioning the firmware upgrade. I am just using my TX-6 as a simple mixer for now, so I probably won’t encounter the pops and clicks anyway, but it is always good to keep current.
Looking over the release notes for the 1.2.15 TX-6 firmware, there are two items that are of interest to me:
- usb stability and bug fixes
- handle recording to slow usb memories
The second one in particular should mean that the TX-6 should be less picky about the USB flash drive it can record to. The first item MAY address the pops and clicks (?).
I have ben testing the latest FW from the 28/3 and I still get the pops and clicks when recording to my iPhone and tested both iPhone camera app and the black magic app with same results on both. So not getting around the issue.
I also tested to record to disc (usb-memory stick) and I didn’t get any clicks and pops so it seems ok.
The TX-6 is an amazing mixer considering the size and the features and stereo aux etc but bums me out that I’m having the issue to record directly to my video with is one if the main regions why I got it.
Edit: I also tested to record to the iPhone voice memo app and that worked fine. So it’s really related to the camera app.
Edit 2: using instagram stories to record audio also seems to work fine so it really seems like a mismatch with the TX-6 and iPhone camera app. Instagram most likely isn’t using the internal camera app but its own to record.
This post was also posted to the Elektronauts forum where I have raised this issue as well.
I wonder if there is some issue between the TX-6 and the device being recorded to such that recording to a different device wouldn’t result in pops and clicks. I have recorded to my TP-7 and not encountered this issue. Of course, both are made by TE so it would make sense they would have tested that pairing.
Well it seems like TE conclusion is correct that it’s related to the iPhone camera app and some kind of bug within it. But since Im recording with the camera app with several different devices such as Elektron boxes and Tascam model 12 and only have issues with the TX-6 there seems to be some kind of missmatch there. Maybe because its mfi-certified with none of the other devices are with is a but contradicting but the only reason I can see.
As a software engineer (now retired), I often wrote device drivers and various bits of embedded code. Back when Compact Flash cards were common, and before SD cards came into being, I wrote code to access those cards. There were timing differences among the various manufacturers. In general, Sandisk cards had different enough timing characteristics that I had to write code specific for those cards, while most other cards worked well enough with one set of code. It is possible that there could be that kind of incompatibility between the iPhone and the TX-6 and not with many other devices. At the time, the Sandisk had better performance specs than competing cards.
I can’t say this is definitely case since I am not involved in any of the development of these products, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that were the case. If that is the issue, then it would be up to TE to write code specific to the iPhone since it apparently functions well enough with other devices. Typically, the code would read an identifying register on the device it is attaching to, but f the connection is via audio cable, then that would likely not be possible since there is no digital data exchange. If the connection is USB, then it should be possible. That would be how the TX-6 could know what it is connected to.
I use final cut camera with no issue with my tx-6 all the time. Maybe worth a try?
I will try it later today. Thanks for the tip
I recorded a thing from the TX-6 directly into Zentracker on iPhone and it didn’t snap, crackle or pop.
Seems like that is not a video app? If so that’s to be excepted
More data points is better. I wouldn’t have expected that some video applications would work and others not, but then here we are.
