When creating a drum sampler preset, there are labels (KD1, KD2, SD1, RIM, CLP, …) appearing below the wav preview box (upper left part of the screen) that seem to be abbreviations for drum types (kick drum 1, kick drum 2, snare drum 1, rim shot, clap…).
Does anyone know how (if at all) they are used by the OP XY or what the benefits would be of following those conventions (beyond the maybe obvious benefit of being able to switch presets and the same drum sequence still doing similar things)? E.g., is this used in some punch in effects (e.g., the one using a neighboring sample)?
Beyond this: What are people’s thoughts and best practices when creating drum presets?
I have a large bunch of drum kits (samples from mars) I want to add to my OP XY and wanted to first develop a strategy for how to do this consistently.
I don’t think that the Punch-In effects effect the individual drums within a kit, but I could be wrong. I’ve only noticed the ones that mute all the drum tracks or all the melodic tracks.
If you’re looking for consistency when creating your own kits, then I’d stick to arranging your kits the same way as the TE ones. At least, as you point out, when switching kits then your beats will still work. Also, if TE do implement some kind of punch in effect that targets specific slots/sounds in a kit, you’ll be ready.
I kind of follow that structure, but occasionally I’ll put a different sound in one of the snare or HH slots. You can get some nice random results this way.
