Wall charger for OP-1?

Charging through USB on my computer is painfully slow, but I didn’t just want to plug in any old wall adapter and fry my new $850 operator. If I use a standard iPhone wall adapter to plug the mini USB into will it safely charge the OP-1?

Thanks!

I use my iPhone adaptor to charge the OP-1 and I haven’t had a problem. I emailed TE about this and they said it was safe and they were right!

The OP-1 takes 4-6 hours for a full charge. But it lasts us ages.

Thanks guys! I’m gonna start using my iphone wall plug to charge it. 4-6 hours wouldn’t be bad, but the first charge when I got it (shipped in with about 40% battery) took about 8 hours via USB. Hoping to get about a 4 hour charge with the wall plug.

My OP-1 has never died on me, and I use it all the time. Only occasionally charge it when syncing track layers.

I rarely charged mine and never ran out of battery.

Like mguniverse I would only really charge it when plugging into computer to sync or upload stuff to it.
If I was taking it away on travels that was the only time id really plug it in for a few hours for a full charge.

One of the truly great things about the OP-1 is the battery life.

Timely thread.

I’ve been pondering how to ensure my OP-1 is charged for our set in Vegas, as I don’t have a laptop. iPhone plug charger it is!

Is the wall plug for iPad safe too? What about generic ones? This should have a specification, ain’t it?

iPad charger just provides more current, which the OP-1 will either take or not. The OP-1 will dictate how much current it can handle for charging. Using an iPad charger in most cases will charge your electronics faster for this reason.

I’ve used a few different wall chargers with no issue.

A great thing for gigs is to get a multi-outlet strip that has USB ports.

that means you can try with the macbook charger to see if it charges even faster without any risk?

Do you mean the 29W Macbook USB-C charger? From some quick research, it looks like it is not advised to do this. The Macbook charger is 14.5V and 2A, but a standard USB cable would probably adapt that to 5V. In the end, you would still only get 2A. My recommendation is to only use a standard charger for USB-A ports (like the port you plug into a computer). Experimenting with electronics is always an “at your own risk endeavor” so whatever you do is ultimately up to you if you feel you understand it well enough to risk it. I personally would just use an iPad charger as the OP-1 probably won’t charge any faster than when 2A is available.

AFAIK, the OP-1 has a USB 2.0 port. That can’t draw more than 500mA. Only newer devices that comply with the USB charging specification could benefit from a higher output wall charger.

I recently bought this surge protector plug with 4 standard plugs and 2 USBs on top. They are rated at 5V 2.1Amp. I’ve just been using this to charge the OP-1 and it works great. I can also confirm that the iPhone and iPad charges work just fine too. I didn’t find that the iPad charger made it charge any faster, although its hard to measure because I don’t run the OP all the way dead. I usually charge at somewhere around 50% but not exact. Seems that an hour or two always tops it off no matter what method I use. (Except USB from my computer, takes ages)

Has anyone measured how much time does it take to charge when plugged to a computer?
