Hey music makers! I’m exploring the idea of running fun, immersive weekend workshops focused on electronic music production. Whether you’re a hobbyist making beats in your spare time or looking to take your production more seriously, I’d love your thoughts.
I’m envisioning a 2-day experience where a small group (6-12 people) come together to focus on creating music in an inspiring environment. The core idea is to help you break through creative blocks and actually finish tracks, using a simplified but powerful setup centered around the OP-1.
Some key features I’m considering:
- Hands-on time with the OP-1 (perfect for both beginners and experienced producers)
- Beautiful, inspiring locations (thinking mountain lodges, beachfront studios)
- Small group size for personalized interaction
- Focus on actually making music, not getting lost in technical details
- Meeting other music enthusiasts
- All meals and accommodation included
Would love your honest feedback about any of the following:
1. Location & Travel
- Would you travel for something like this? If so, how far?
- What locations would excite you most?
- Would you prefer locations near major cities or more remote, inspiring settings?
2. Format & Content
- What specific topics would you most want to focus on? Some ideas:
- Creating full tracks on the OP-1
- Sound design basics and field recording techniques
- Finding inspiration in limitations
- Finishing tracks (instead of endless tweaking)
- Developing your unique style
- How important is having a well-known producer/artist involved?
- Would you prefer more structured teaching or creative jam sessions?
3. Pricing
- What would you consider a fair price for a 2day all-inclusive experience?
- Would you prefer payment plans or upfront payment?
- What would make this price point worth it for you?
4. Additional Questions
- What’s your biggest struggle in making music right now?
- What would make this a “must-attend” experience for you?
- How often do you think you’d attend something like this?
- What would make you choose this over watching YouTube tutorials?
- Would you be interested in a Discord community after the retreat?
- Would you bring your own OP-1 or prefer one to be provided?
- Interest in trying other portable synths/grooveboxes?
I’m passionate about helping people make music they’re excited about, regardless of their experience level. This isn’t about becoming a pro (I’m not one!) - it’s about having fun, being creative, and actually finishing tracks you can share with friends and family.
I realize this is a long post, with a lot of questions, so feel free to chip in thoughts/ideas about whatever resonates. It’s not a homework assignment
Would love to hear your thoughts, even if you’re not interested in attending. All feedback helps!
