What is sampling going to be like?

@domatron
I agree chopping on the 500 wasn't too much fun.

It can be done better like on the SP404SX. The combination of mark button and dials to get the the start and end points right is perfect in my opinion. A screen isn't necessary in that case and it feels very intuitive.

Yes we gotta wait and see.....most likely a bit longer than september I am afraid.

Oh, I hated using those dials on the SP-404SX. As much fun as that device was, editing samples on it was a laborious task.

Yeah, especially long samples. The trick is getting good with the mark button.

well if there is a sample function the audio quality will be much better than the PO, OP-Z has a 24bit/48 khz functionality.

The PO is like 8 bit

^ Do you mean the PO-33? How did you come to that conclusion?

i asked, and after some pushing got a reply from a beta tester.

PO-33 K.O records in 8-bit (μ-law) at 24KHz and replays audio in 46KHz. Hope this helps.

Interesting… that means the total flash size is 1MB. This u-law was used in the past for telephony applications, it works more or less like a compressor, squashing the louder signals to fit into a 8-bit dynamic range. So, not on par with OP-1 after all.

Yeah the PO33 sampling is pretty lofi, sounds quite crunchy!

yessss, can’t wait, love me some crunch

@punji Yep it squeezes the hell out of the audio. Nice fact about the use of compression in telephones.

Hi all,

what I really need to know is: sample in the op-z will work like drum sample in op-1 ?

And how will we manage to select samples in memory, or presets if we dont have a screen?

yes

It seems that a iOS app is needed to manage stuff visually, it’s still not confirmed that you can import, record or manage samples as of today.

no one know?

I need to know if I’ll buy a po-33 or op-z, or nothing.

Little update, in the beta version you can add your own samples via the disk mode from a Computer to OP-Z i don’t know if you can add samples to more than one track or if this process will make the final version.

Great! Where did you get this info?

Does that mean samples on more than one track or not? Haha, he fiendishly avoided that question :stuck_out_tongue:

…Now that my OP-1 is on order I seriously hope the OP-Zs sampling feature won’t be too good

(For all the people who preordered the OP-Z…deep down I also hope you’ll be happy with it)

I think the important word from Cukoo is “KIT”. Is he talking about multiple samples??

This could mean diferent samples across the keyboard, or layered by velocity (less posible as the OPZ doesnt have velocity sensitive keys).
I dont have an OP1. Has the OP1 this features?

Yep he avoids the question, samples on more than one track would make the OP-Z completely awesome but there is no indication so far it will. At least there is opportunity for home-brew software to manage, name and transfer the sample kits on the computer.

hey mcpepe, nah can’t see it multi-sampling (more than one velocity layer) and that is perfectly fine for me.
