What is sampling going to be like?

I have a feeling it will be similar to “kits” on the PO-33 KO: you can load multiple samples and chose their trim points, but it is only monophonic playback. Literally my only gripe about the KO (I like to finger-drum).

The sampling is the biggest question I have about this device. Is it limited to just one track? Will it be like the PO, with slicing and melodic options? Hopefully they put out the details before release.

It seems, as said by Cukoo (look previous answers), that it will have a disk mode to transfer samples to the OPZ easily. That is something really important that you cannot do with the POs.

^ Technically, it should be possible for an app to generates the PO-33 backup wav file from a set of samples, but I guess TE does not care about putting effort at that, nor releasing the transfer format to the community so we could more easility develop that.

That’s a mad idea. Would be really sweet if anybody could figure that out!!

Yeah I’m hoping someday someone will reverse engineer the PO-33/35 data format. I have no idea how it works though so it could be virtually impossible…

whats the appeal of using the data format to get .wavs?

seems like one could just record the audio themselves no?

Not necessarily to get audio from the PO, but I’m thinking a similar way to the Vosyr app for Volca Sample, where you can import your own samples and even create your own patterns.

… and then vice versa, for being able to export “jam” patterns from the device to be cleaned up in software.

ah right right

Well if I would have designed the OP-Z, I would have done it in a way, that every track could have every type of available sound-engine. And because the OP1 was designed in a way that the hardware can evolve over time and has enough developer „headroom“ to grow, I would expect to follow the OPZ this same design philosophy.

Me too!

Yeh seems like they dropped the ball with the sampling on op-z. From what I read the samping is very limited in general (only one track?) and my main issue with op1 prevails - having to resave a sample for param/fx/start point tweaks etc to that same sample. Doesn’t seem like the optimal option on a unit with quite limited memory to begin with. Multiple presets could reference the same sample without using hardly any extra space… Could probably quadruple the amount of user patches on op1 if it worked this way :frowning:
