What's the build quality of the Teenage Engineering OP-1 soft case?

I bought a case from Bowoo for a little more, handmade and great quality ! bowoo

There is also an orange and white version, but I purchased the brown.

wow, they look incredible

Man I want that orange one so bad (even though I have a unit portables case)

No pocket for accessories is biiig minus.

Yeah, it is basically if you bought a small guitar case for the op-1. They wanted to make the case look traditional to fit with other instruments I feel. I personally love it, feels and looks amazing.

Nice! And i guess it can be closed too. If not, a strip of velcro would fix that. The case looks very nice.

@KLNK It doesn’t close due to it being meant for wires. But if you asked I feel they might even put velcro on it for you. If not, it doesn’t take much to modify it I’m sure. I also failed to mention it closes via magnet, very cool indeed.

It’s nice, but what I like about the “offical” soft case is that there is a special place for the knobs, they never rub against the case.

I’m not confortable with the idea of knobs rubbing against the case.

@LyingDalai I feel like I’m advertising, but as far as I know they dont. The case is large enough for the knobs to fit without really rubbing against the case.

But if you feel it’s gonna be tossed around and such, and not carried in a handle case like this, I would go with TE’s case. But this is more of a carry-by-hand case ( handle included )

The knobs don’t rub on the UDG case.

I do own the TE case, the grey version

I was just pointing out a potential risk of harming the precious knobs
:-B

@ghostly606 Yes, then if you plan to travel and throw it in a bag or package, that case is better suited to fit those needs. As for me, I’m never letting it get packaged in with other things without a hard case. The only way the case would potentially rub or harm the knobs would be if it were to travel with other things applying pressure that may shift around, or if you dropped it from an incredibly difficult height.

@LyingDalai But even TE’s case won’t protect such things from happening, as it is also a soft case. If you were to want a case for those things I would recommend getting a custom hard case.

This case is basically a slightly more expensive alternative to the normal case most people have. It has about the same functionality as well, just looking more traditional and built with a handle into it

Also feels much better with it being made with finer materials. It’s also water-resistant, but I wouldn’t recommend trying that feature out.

Hey, Xophize

Do you know if the case has the inner padding like the OP1 soft case? so it pads the knobs more?

@Erdnase The soft case has less padding where the knobs are for them to fit, this case is just high enough for the knobs to fit. The inside has memory foam built into the case, and is lined with felt leather, so the whole thing has just a little more padding then the soft case.

Again though, if you think you will be putting pressure on the case or dropping it from a high height, I could never recommend more that you get a hard case. Both the soft case, and the Bowoo case are “soft” cases ( imagine that ), rendering them useless for things such as this.

To sum it up, either will do fine, but this is a nice alternative for the case everyone has. The differences are the looks, slightly better padding, and the handle and magnetic enclosure latch. But then again, this case is 30$ more to add those things.

110$ Bowoo
79$ Teenage Engineering
30-60$ for a custom case or udg

@xophize

thanks! have one on the way. the case is beautiful. Am I going weirdly paranoid thinking that the magnetic enclosure will mess up the op1? ha ha. I’m sure its fine.

thanks for the info.

@Erdnase I worried that myself, freaking out about it. I asked them and the magnet is just powerful enough to keep it together, nothing powerful enough to mess or alter with electronics. They have been using their own cases for years and it’s been fine, so that put me to ease.

After receiving the product and feeling the power of the magnet, even I can tell it is fine. Should be no worries, but I felt that way too, as I love using the OP-1.

The TE OP-1 case is great… Had it since day and has been tossed around a lot. I’ve sewed on some extra pouches, but of the Korg variety. Actually have the monotron duo and delay inside them. I don’t have any POs, but I assume they would fit minus the hangers.
