Why did TE pick the volume knob to be the tape speed on the OB-4?

I keep moving the volume knob up and down before pressing input to adjust the speed.

Is there a reason why they pick that function instead of holding input and moving the tape dial?

Personally, I like that it’s the volume knob rather than the tape dial.
